Topic: Not feeling the xmas spirit Posted: 24 December 2009 at 10:12am |
I know alot of it is "poor me" and I shouldn't be like this but feeling rather un-xmas-y. This xmas is very unlike all our other xmases so maybe that is it. DH is home at the moment but going our this afternoon to town with his work collegues for their xmas do as such so not sure what time he will be home. Mum just said they aren't expecting us till about 2pm tomorrow and for as long as I can remember we have always has a big breakfast with family as well as the xmas dinner. Suppose I feel a bit lonely. But I have to make an effort as it is Jack's 3rd xmas and Ben's first. I know they won't remember it but I will. Plus I have 2 beautiful boys so I have a lot to be thankful for. OK gotta go before I dwell on this further and make myself cry. Sorry for the pity party, just needed to get it out.
I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, I am sure that once I get going I am going to have a great time too.

i tried to get myself into the christmas spirit by playing some christmas music (the soundtrack to Mixed Nuts - its the only one in the house) - and anyway i ended up bawling my eyes out and turning it off!

Not feeling at all Christmassy here either, it's raining, it's hot and my DH is in bed asleep with Manflu while I try and stop Callum from destroying the Christmas tree and simultaneously order presents online for people back home AND it's our 5th Christmas away from home and I'm feeling homesick already

Sorry you guys aren't in the spirit either, although secretly I am glad that I am not the only one
Trying hard here to at least be happy. Reminding Jack about Santa every now and then, hoping it gets us both in the xmas mood

Me too!
I am going to flag the Gym today and open a bottle of wine (I'm thinking I have to wait till at least 4pm ) Hopefully that gets me Merry.
Every year we stay at my parents on Christmas Eve, and spend Christmas day with them. This year they have decided to go to Auckland as my younger brother can't get time off work. Tommorow will be the first time in my life I've had Christmas without them.
I know its silly and I should be greatful we are all healthy and happy but I just don't have that usual Christmas Eve excitement. I had been looking forward to putting Jacksons wooden train set and table up, but DH announced HE'S going to do it (I am so much more excited about it than he is!)

Aaah Linzy. Lots of hugs. I hope you feel the spirit soon and if you find it please send some to me too.
It really just doesnt feel like Christmas. When we moved into the house I had it planned that we will at least have the furniture in the house by then and set up for my boys first Christmas. But alas the tree is in the corner with the prezzies, Grant is sanding Andrew's room at the moment and the whole place is a mess.
It really just doesnt feel like Christmas and tomorrow one of Grant's pals are coming over (only guest we are having) and I know they are just going to fly planes in the garden and talk guys, planes and work stuff and it will be me looking after kids as such in a house where the floors need to be sanded and stained.
And after that novel, I hope you are at least smiling a little bit and say with me: Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas.

I was feeling pretty fine and happy about christmas, we don't have much finance wise this christmas , but we have managed to get her some pretty good presents, thanks to TM and sales at Farmers , and imo , shes the one who christmas is really for , my parents I've made theirs , and for DH I made him a book , of the 50 reasons why I love him , with a pic of us on each page ....got the food ready and the house more or less sorted for my parents and sister coming over tomorrow , so I've been feeling pretty christmassy .
Then I went to my mum's before and she told me my brother is in hospital , with serious burns on his arms from some sort of fire, and needs skin grafts and to be in hospital for the next five days , so now I just feel sad for him .

Oh I am so sorry about your brother Kelly.
I have to say I have been making an effort with the boys this afternoon. We put out milk and cookies for Santa and turned on the xmas lights. Plus DH was home alot earlier than I expected.
I hope you all find a little xmas spirit like I have

caitlynsmygirl, hope you brother is getting better, that's tough around xmas times when people are sick & hurt.
Hope you had a fun day with your little one.

I didn't feel it over here either this year. Just had my 3rd xmas lunch today and didn't get excited or anything. The boys did but it didn't rub off on me.
Next year I want to stay home for it and try and make it xmassy

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Thanks Jazzy :-) , I was going to go visit him but ended up getting too busy , think he was pretty sleepy from pain killers anyway .
our day was actually alright, nice and laid back , and most importantly , Caitlyn had a great day (Ty didn't seem too interested tho )
