Hi all! Thanks in advance...

I'm not sure what they're called but my MIL has mentioned with car seats there is a special attachment you have to get installed by a mechanic. It apparently comes through the gap between the back seats where you clip your seat belt in.

I'm not sure what it's called or looks like! I'm hoping someone on here might realise what I'm talking about and be able to help me out...

Some questions I have are...

1. Whats it called?

2. Is it just for car seats or do you need them for capsules + bases and booster seats too?

3. Generally how much are they?

4. If I don't have one will I still be able to bring my baby home from the hospital? (We have a capsule which clicks into a base).

Maybe she is talking about a tether bolt which you attach the car seat to as well as using the seat belt. You don't generally need these with a capsule. I got them installed for the convertable car seats. Maybe some one knows a good website that you could look at for this info?? You could google safe to go technicians.

Yep it's called a tether bolt. You can get them installed at most mechanics I think, just give one a call and ask them. From memory it was about $40???? Something like that. You won't need one for the capsule, but you will for the next carseat up (before booster seat, like a convertible carseat), unless you get a carseat like Brio which has tether straps that go onto the front seats when it's rear facing. Some booster seats need a tether but not all.

Or if you have a late model european car you can get the isobar system which is like a tether strap but is inbetween the back and the seat of the seat and is like a hook.

Tether straps shouldn't fall through a gap in the seats however they should sit either on a parcel tray or in the boot. I know the info I have with my car seat says it shouldn't be used in a small car or hatchback where the strap is likely to fall through the gap in the seats where it folds or sommething along those lines (sorry mental moment)

Thanks guys, was what I was meaning!

I googled it and came across this site NZ Child Restraints

It looks like we won't need it for the capsule but will need it when we get a car seat, but it's something we're going to look into doing now.
