Depends where abouts in Aussie you are going...
It takes longer, took about 3 hours to get from Auckland to Melbourne last time I went lol. Remember the flight from CHCH to Wellington is about an hour, it's an hour from Welly to Auckland, so yeah it def takes longer than an hour to get there!!
But congrats on going to Aussie wish I could go, maybe next year lol, where abouts you heading to?

Yay exciting
Christchurch to Gold Coast and Brisbane is usually 3 to 3.5 hours. Thats what it is usually when we fly home (Chch) and back to Brissy.

I've been to the Gold Coast a few times, I love it , the first thing you'll notice thats different, is the air, its a much warmer air than we have here, drier too .
If you can , see if you can get to Pacific Fair , or "Pac fair " as the locals call it, its a huge shopping centre and you can find some great bargains.
And somewhere fun to go at night is Draculas , so try go there ,
Have a great time , its an awesome place !
