Hiya....I feel pretty cheeky coming on here just everytime Im having probs and need advice but thats what I need at the mo or maybe even just some reasurance.....not sure....well Brooke is 8mths now and is just getting over bronkylitis.she spent last sat in hosp for observation but thay let us go hm sun on 48hr gate leave.......has hit her pretty hard and now she has very sore inflamed ears and inflamed throat wif green running down....so yet again...antibiotics.She has gone of her food and drinks since last thurs....imrpoved when we were in hosp(they thought about putting feeding tube dwn her and think she she musta understood) But since been hm Im lucky to get 200ml in during 24hr period.....and few sips water...she seems happy enough in herself although having few extra sleeps during day????Im starting to really worry bout it all....
Is she still wetting her nappies? Just look for about 6 wet nappies in a 24 hour period. If not then she prob needs to go back to the doc. If she is wetting ok then im sure she will go back to her normal feeding when her throat comes right.
also have to remember that no one feels like eating with gunk in their throat and nose plus if her ears and nose are blocked - sucking will be VERY painful - not to mention she will have a hard time breathing and might need to stop for breathers/rests when drinking.
I would definately go back to your doc - 200mls in a 24 hr period is not really enough, she is still a little one.. especially when she is having antibiotics - which most will give them a bit of diarrhoea or upset tummy (and alot need to be had with food). Maybe even just looking at something to help clear her nose like some drops or something so that she can breathe a little easier and releive some of the pressure might help.
Kobe got this at least once every winter and we would be in hospital with him all the time. Its pretty scary stuff I know. Just as long as there are lots of wet nappies they arent too worried about milk as long as something is going in and we were told not to even bother offering solids. Also the breathing, the hospital probably told you but its something like 15 breaths within 30 seconds (dont quote me on that its just a guess cos I cant remember exactly the figures) It generally lasts 5-7 days peaking at around day 3 but then Kobe would have like a cough that lasted for ages after, most of the winter in fact. Unfortunatley once they get it once they are more likely to get it again, but the doctors said they grow out of it around 2 years and looks like they were right, this is the first winter we havent had it and Kobe was 2 in march. Oh and have you tried raising the bed/cot head, that seemed to help a bit.
Thanks guys....will look into getting her some drops for nose........she has had 255ml today and quite a few sips of rehydration fluid.......and she ate a little dinner...too scared to get excited though.hopefully she will wake up before 12 so I can add bit more to todays total....Ive got terrible earache and sore throuat so can kinda understand how she might feel....Im not interested in food today either.Ill feel so happy when she drinking better.Really sux cause she was drinking 800-1000mls on regular basis......
