Topic: Housework! Posted: 17 July 2006 at 11:48am |
Was wanting to hear how you all feel about housework!! Mine seems never ending at the moment, I'd love to have one of those floors you could eat off lol but thats not the case at my place. I know part of it at the moment is having a little one in the house again, when he is awake I want to be spending time with him not doing housework and when he is asleep that is my 'me' time and same again What are your must do every day jobs? Could you eat off your floor?
Just to add: my place isnt a pigsty lol but I could be better at cleaning!!

I think it's really great that you're both putting time with your kids ahead of the housework... big up's to you! Mine's still on the way so she isn't creating any mess yet, but even still, there'd be no eating off our floor, that's for sure! For my sanity I need to have the dishes done and fireplace ash cleaned up daily, laundry every day or two, and the firewood stacked up inside each day (for the evening). Everything else usually gets done by me once a week, and the shower-box gets cleaned whenever hubby notices that it needs it (we've decided I need my eyes checked, 'cause I just don't see it and he finds it blindingly obvious! But it's the one bit of housework that's his, and what sort of a woman would take that away from him, I ask?!?).

I'd love to have a really clean place but right now housework is a swear word! We keep the place fairly tidy but honestly I'm too tired for much else and B is doing lots of overtime....I'm hoping the nesting bug will kick in soon! So far the will is there but not the energy.

I'm exactly the same. I used to clean Jake's room everyday after he went to bed (sleeps in a differnet room to his playroom), and then after 10 mins awake in the morning, it'll be back the same....so now, after seeing Jake help his daddy clean up at Nana's house- i';m going to make part of his bedtime routine to put his toys away. Oh, and hosework - jake's "chore" everyday is to sweep the kitchen floor - doesn't really end up swept, but I figure it's training.
I hate dishes so much - thats why I have two kids, one to wash and one to dry...now I need one more to put things away...
so on that note, house is a mess, and I'm on the computer....hmmmm

I have about 3 loads of washing sitting on my chair to fold, but I have no energy to fold them. The floors need vacuuming and I think there is a few dishes to do. But now I am studying fulltime I think DH needs to pick up some of the slack.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I wouldn't eat off my floor, but my toddler does. That being said, if the rubbish bin was within his height range he'd eat out of that too.
I thankfully have a 10 year old who is in the perfect age range for weekend chores and 'motivational' bribing. Sean gets currency (be it computer/playstation time or pocket money) for helping out around the house and I get some of the housework that I don't particularly like doing done without exerting any effort. Hubby is also great and vacuums the house 2 or 3 times a week. He's starting referring to home as 'Camp Work-a-lot'.
Dishes are done at least once a day...the 10 year old is great at unloading the dishwasher and is pretty handy with a tea-towel too. I fold the washing while sitting in front of the tv.
I can clearly remember having to do chores around the house growing up and figure that I am doing my thing to ensure that the next generation of boys go out into the world fully house trained and able to fend for themselves....women of the future will thank me...yep.

Oh, and those of you without 7 to 12 year old helpers - if you have toddlers, involve them with day-to-day stuff as you go. I sing songs or chirp on about how much fun tidying up around the house is so that they think they want to join in...that way, when they're 10.....
And more importantly, mess is fine. Filth is a different story. Provided your house is safe and there isn't mould dripping down from the ceilings, a few dishes on the bench and washing on the couch isn't going to hurt anyone. In fact, dive-bombing and rolling through clean washing is great fun for a toddler...and those clean sheets make great tents between the couches...spending time with your kids and staying sane are much better things to do.

I know how you all feel. Housework sucks!!! I try to do a little bit each day so it doesn't all pile up, but sometimes I just can't be bothered. I have washing to fold at the moment, and I did say I would wash the car today... but Alex is asleep, so I'm using my 'me time' on Ohbaby!! Much better then housework, and it wil still be there tomorrow!

I was just remembering how when Alex was first born I was really paranoid about doing my housework. I thought that if someone came around and the house wasn't imaculate they would think I was a terrible mother. I think I got over that when Alex was about 3 months old, when I realised no one actually cared how my house looked!

the first i do when i get up is put the nappies through (using cloth), then i do our washing.
I then sterlise the bottles, but i mostly do the bulk of the housework on a day that i am home all day, and can just potter around while Rhiannon is sleeping.
Kent likes a tidy house but is realising that he has to contribute to it, as well

my house is usually tidy, but definately not clean
the dishes are always loaded into the dishwasher (yay for them! ) and stuff is put away, apart from what jack's playing with.
but...we have a golden retriever who is an inside dog, needless to say i SHOULD vacuum every other day. if we had a half decent vacuum cleaner it wouldn't be such a mission!
jack is in daycare 2 mornings a week, one of those days i spend cleaning my sis's partners place so the last thing i want to do on my only morning of me time is housework!
oh well, such is life.

My pet hate is folding washing. Our new house has a dishwasher which is awesome, I load it after each meal and then turn it on at night. And I do the washing every day, but it sometimes piles up for a week or so on the couch clean before I actually fold it and put it away. Trying to be more motivated in my new house.
I have a cleaner who does the bathroom and kitchen, plus vacuum, mop, cobwebs, dusting, cleans all the cupboard fronts and skirting etc. so all I have to do is vacuum if the floors get gross in between her coming,

I live in fear of getting visitors!! If I know someone is going to visit then that makes me the clean the house otherwise its dishes and washing on a daily basis and thats it. Could get a cleaner but I'd be one of those people that would tidy up before they came. Most times I'm ok with our mess but every so often it annoys me so much that I do a big clean. Rex is the same so that takes the pressure off

we always have a panick when someone says they are going to come over and have to race around cleaning up. My aim after having Addy though is to get myself organised and try to become a yummy mummy hehe like that is going to happen. But I can go a day and not have showered or gotten out of my trackies and feel so embarassed if someone comes to the door or I run into anyone while Im out so now I have to get up, shower, actually put makeup on even if it is just tinted moisturiser and lip gloss and I can not wear scruffy trackies. Then I get Kobe breakfast and while he is eating I tidy the kitchen and put on some washing. i must say i do feel so much better for it, much more motivated. Today after all that I went for an hour walk with the kids, cleaned out thier draws, hung Kobes toy hammock, did some baking, 3 loads of washing and made a roast for tea tht was ready when hubby walked in teh door, how domesticated am I!
As for other housework we have two lounges and one is Kobes domain and is always a mess, thats cool though I just tidy it up at night cos I dont want him to have me breathing donw his neck all the time, the other lounge I try to keep tidy incase we have visitors. Im a bit like you Vanessa, our house is normally tidy but not nessecarily clean, trying to get hubby to do the shower, his one and only job is a mission, oh yeah I cleaned that today to so add tht to my list. Its a nightmare with our dog to keep things clean plus little handprints and scraps of food that someone in the family leaves everywhere!

i'm sooo needing a dyson vacuum cleaner as i'm told they are great for dog hair, but hubby won't let me tick one up and there's no way we can just go buy one
i was all set to vacuum yesterday, then dean came home early from work so i lost my motivation hehe, told him i was about to do vacuuming and he offered to do it for me....i wasn't about to say no!

Housework? What's that? Quite happy to let it fall by the wayside, mind you, Roland has been wonderful about doing the basics that I would normally do...
Not too fussed really, if people have a problem with my untidy house then too bad LOL

Jax, housework is where you attach dusting cloths to the cats feet and chase them around the kitchen floor and furniture so that they can clean up for you......

Emeldee, i won't let my DH read your post as he'd probably do it and we've got two cats so he'd think it'd get done twice as fast...lol to be honest i don't know how i am going to manage when we finally get a little one - it's hard enough now tidying up after DH...
