ok so DH and I have decided we are all coming down for a few days in either early May of late June. We would love to stay somewhere on the coast and will use bookabach to find some where but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what town to stay in. We have family in Waikanae and Naenae and so will be catching up with them at some stage but we aren't to worried about being near them would just like somewhere that will have everything we need plus nice places to go with Alex.

Thanks heaps

Do you want to stay on the Kapiti Coast or in Wellington?

The best places in Kapiti are Raumati Beach, or Paraparaumu beach. Waikanae and Otaki beach are good too. Paraparamaumu and Raumati are only around 30mins from Welly CBD (outside of rush hour).

In Welly itself, there are a couple of places in Island Bay, but I don't recommend the lighthouse with a kiddy.

From Waikanae you can head inland to Staglands which is a really cool farm park
There is also Lindale farm park and an indoor play area just north of Paraparaumu.
On SH1 in Otaki there is good oulet shopping.

The beach is nice all the way along the coast.

I recommend going to TePapa in Welly -lots for kids to enjoy there.

Enjoy!

thanks guys.

DJ you are a wealth of knowledge    Thanks so much. We wondered about the lighthouse as we did the castle for our first wedding anniversary as DH was in Wellington having just started a new job and was training down there. I think I like the idea of Paraparam or Raumati so will look into those two.

LOL no worries!

I forgot to mention the Nga Manu nature reserve - it's in Waikanae and worth a visit too

The light house is really pokey and not very flash inside (esp for the money). You would be better off with a bach somewhere - as Chickielou said - heaps to chose from.
