Topic: bedtimes Posted: 25 July 2006 at 9:22pm |
Jake is now in his big boy bed, and up until recently has been going to bed at 6:30 = 7pm. But for the past two days, he has sat in his room singing until 8, an then gets up for half an hour and goes back at 8:30 no problem. We've been letting him stay up late on sundays to watch "the zoo" - he LOVES it, so am considering changing his bedtime. So, just wondering.
What are your kids ages and bedtimes?
Jake - 21 months - 6:30 - 7pm
Taine - 6 months - 6:00 - 6:30pm
P.S Taine has now been officailly kicked out of our room nad has slept through the night eversince.\
Woohoo

Blair - nearly 4 - 7:30 - 8:00pm
Ryan and Katelyn - 1 yr - same time as Blair.
They all sleep through till about 8 in the morning which i think is great.

Alan goes down between 7-8pm depending on what he slept during the day. I have alway's thought that 7pm was a good bed time for kids that is what Alan as been doing right through from very young he sleep's till around 7am in the morning. If Jake is not tired and is happy maybe he is ready to stay up that bit later.

Quinn usually goes to bed around 6.30 - 7. But he has mostly quit sleeping during the day except in extreme tired situations (darnit!). If he naps during the day it is much later, around 8.30 - 9.
We put Quinn in a big bed oevr the weekend and I think the novelty was just too much for him 'cause he would just play and talk and read in his bed til crazy hours but that seems to have eased off now! Maybe he plays and sings just cause he can (not that you can't play and sing in a cot but more along the lines of "i'm a big kid and I am the boss?")?

My girls both used to be down in bed by 6.30 - 7pm ish but with both of us out of the house and now living quite far from the middle of town, we have peak hour traffic to battle - so most nights are only jsut gettinghome around 5.30/quarter to 6. meaning by the time bath and dinner etc is done they get to bed at 7.30 alot of the time we will give ayja dinner and put her to bed so that we can have our dinner in peace. Paris like to watch futurama with daddy (he has got her hooked on those silly programmes!)then goes to bed. Ayja had been having a few bad nights lately but now seems to have settled.
Mostly they still get to bed about 7.30 - if we are having a really late running night or dinner runs late or whatever then sometimes it's 8, i mean they are both awake at 6.30/quarter to 7 and we leave the house by 7.40 each morning, so it's a long long day for them... only consolation is that ayja is still on 2 sleeps a day, and paris still has a sleep at daycare. On the days that she is at home with me, she will sleep 3 hours in the afternoon.

Han goes to bed around 7.30pm
A bit before if I am organised or closer to 8pm if I am lazy or if she does what she did tonight which is go all mental after drinking her bottle and do poos in her nice clean nappy. Arghhhhh. Then run round like a maniac when I tried to re-nappy her. Then made me read her 2 books. Then finally lay down and went to sleep. (Mind you, that was better than last night.)
The little toad has just learnt to say "more", which is a pain in the butt when I used to get away with only reading one book at bedtime. Now it's two atleast.

Oh My Gosh Nikki, jake has started with "more" too. And as I sit on the bed and read stories, if I get up, he grabs my jersaey, throws me back onto the pillow and yells "mine"

P.S. Can you even understand what Jake is saying half the time???? I swear Hannah thinks I'm an idiot but I can't for the life of me work out what one of her main words is. It seems to be her default word and says it ALL THE TIME! So far I have imagined it as "shut it" and "yoghurt" but really have no idea.

Kiya goes to bed between 7pm and 7:30pm. We used to send her to bed closer to 7 and let her "read" until 7:30, but now its into bed and lights out as close to 7 as possible. She wakes around 7:30 in the morning... which is an improvement, because we were having to wake her up by 8am so she'd be ready for school on time!
Josiah goes to bed around 7pm... and wakes at 6:51am on the dot every morning!

Jake pretend he can talk and yabbers away. I say "really?" and pretend interested. IN reality - no idea. I think a lot of words he says I have imagined. Although pretty sure he swears.

jack goes to bed usually at 7.30pm but like nikki, it can be stretched out to 8pm if we are feeling lazy.
i'm surprised he doesn't swear, dean and i keep telling ourselves we need to be more careful but it's hard eh!
we are hoping to get him into his big boy bed before his bday next month. we were in invercargill on the weekend and the motel we were at had a small bed in it so jack slept in that....he surprised me and slept really well!! fingers crossed it will be the same in his own bed and new room.....yeah right!!

I want to put Josiah into a bed by around the end of October... he will be just under 18 months (and Xavier should still be at least three weeks away). The problem is, I'm not sure if he'll be big enough... physically, I mean. Josiah is not a big child - at 14 1/2 months old he weighs 9 kg and wears 00 (9-12mth) sized clothing. As far as being old enough goes, that's not a worry... but he's only just big enough now to climb up onto the bed in his room (probably the one he'll be sleeping in) and I'm not sure he'll be able to get in and out of it okay then... what do you think?

To start with, when I put Han in her bed I removed the legs on the bed so it was just the base and mattress sitting on the ground. So she could get out easily and also so if she fell out it wouldn't be so far to the ground.
I've put the legs back on her bed and I think she can only just climb up on it now.
Anyway, I don't think it'll be a problem if he is swimming in the bed, less chance he'll fall out right?

The bed is a divan base (one of those ones with drawers) and doesn't have legs... at the moment he sleeps most of the time across the head of the cot with his feet sticking out of the bars and his head against the other side!
I'm mostly worried that he'll keep falling off the bed trying to get onto and off it.

Hrmmmm.... it's still about 13 or so weeks away right?
Do you think he'll get better at climbing in and out in that time?
Or do you have a foam mattress or something you can put down beside it for the first few months?
---
Bugger, just realised you said that you aren't sure he'll be able to get in and out by the time babe arrives. Well... could you keep him in the cot if you have a bassinet for the new baby? I have one at my mum's place that you are more than welcome to borrow. When I go home next I can bring it back with me...?

We are looking at getting a bassinet for Xav (so he can be in our room initially, as the boys will be sharing a room)... I just don't want Josiah to feel like he's being kicked out of his cot for Xav to move into it!
Thanks Nikki, that's really nice of you!
