Topic: The saga continues... Posted: 28 July 2006 at 4:56pm |
Well the saga continues...
On Wed night I pulled a muscle in my shoulder. So I rang Healthline and asked them what I could take to help with the pain coz I couldn't sleep. They told me I neede to go straight to hospital, and to call an ambulance. So I did what I was told.
Anyways, after sitting in the emergency department for 2 hours in a wheelchair, I was getting really uncomfortable so they found me a bed but I couldn't lie down coz of the shoulder pain. The babies were not terribly impressed, and I started having contractions about 5am. So I called the midwife and the obstetrician met me upstairs in the Maternity unit.
He could feel the contractions thru my stomach, but the CTG looked all good and they did a scan and both bubs were bouncing around, and they also scanne dmy gallbladder, kidneys, liver and just about every other internal organ and all were fine as well. So no answers on why I was having contractions. They also did some special swab to test whether I am at risk of prem labour which came back negative, and an internal that showed I wasn't dilating which was a good sign.
The OB decided to keep me in overnight for observation and the contractions continued on and off for most of yesterday but settled down eventually. So I hve been allowed to come home.
But now my m/w and OB want me to switch to the hospital team because they think I am High Risk and require more time than they can give which freaks me out a bit. But we have agreed to wait and see how the next few weeks go and if I have any more probs I will have to go with the hospital team, but if things continue on normally then I can stay with my own m/w. She also thinks I was being overdramatic calling an ambulance, but I was just doing what I was told, and I was in so much pain at the time that I couldn't have driven anywhere.
So I have my fingers very tightly crossed that my babies will behave over the next few weeks, coz I don't want to end up with some random hospital doctors.

Oh boy, Emma, what a drama! I hope they figure out what happened to cause those contractions - and that it was a one-off event! Stay put, Gremlins, it's not time to come yet.

whoa, these babies are being right little monkeys... take it easy and i hope you get to carry on with the M/W like you want to and that the bubs decide to behave.. although in the end it's having two healthy bubs and healthy mum that counts.. You are important to us Emma... so keep yourself healthy!lol

Hmmm, pain relief - apparantly MORPHINE of all things is safe during pregnancy. And thats about all. And I was sooooo not wanting any morphine, they eventually had to hold me down just about to give it to me coz the pain was so bad I wasn't coping.
My m/w thinks stress brought on the contractions, and she could be right - the pain in my shoulder was worse than labour, and because pf where it was I couldn't get comfy in any position which made it really hard to cope with.
Thanks for all your thoughts
