Ok so i know that there has prob been a post about this already... but what skin care products do you use and for what skin type, and what ones do you recommend that don't break the bank. lol. I have heard that the garnier pure range is good.. can anyone back this up?

I have been using st ives face scrub with clean and clear moisturiser since i was a teenager and it has mostly worked - now i dunno, it prob is to do with the heap of stress i have had with sitting exams, getting clinical hours sorted, going for interviews and waiting to hear about jobs and also cos i am a zombie with Ayja not sleeping between 11pm and 1.30 am every night since saturday.. and a few nights before that..... but my skin on my face has broken out really bad... I'm not wearing makeup etc cos i'm at home most days so i know it's not that, and when i do wear it i take it off properly. I just thought that maybe it might be time for a more 'grown up' skin care routine.... maybe something that fights wrinkles lolol, am getting a few too many "smile" lines around my eyes.. again prob from lack of sleep (thanks AYJA!!)

Any help you can give would be wonderful.

I was thinking the same thing recently, I really have no skin care routine and I think I REALLY should have sorted that by my age! But the stuff that everybody seems to think is the best is so expensive?!?!? I would love to find an economic (read: cheap lol) good skincare brand...

I use the Nivea Young range. it is gentle and really nice on my skin. It is also quite cheap (cleanser $8) at the supermarket. What you can do is go to the chemists and talk with them and say you want to trial different things and they should give you samples. So you don't waste your money on product that your skin hates.

I was using that St Ives stuff.. then Neutrogena.. I've come to the conclusion that everything works for a while and then stops working.. after your skin gets used to it.. my skins gets bad at that time of month so I give up! grrr

I'm using Dr Haushka as I was given some free samples when I had my facial (present for my bday) so I've invested in some face wash but certainly not cheap @ $50 a bottle!!!!!!!!!! lasts for a long time though so I guess it's worth it.

I use Johnson's Foaming Facial Wash and Moisturising Day Cream from their PH 5.5 range... it's not too expensive at about $9 each; and one container of facewash lasts me 8 months, while one tub of moisturiser lasts me 6 months because you don't use much at a time.

I have been using Oil of Olay for around 12 years now and have never had any problems with it. I am a little lazy when it comes to washing off make up etc and either use a flannel or facial wipes.

The garnier range is pretty good! Depends on the time of the year for the skin type for me though. But lately I'm only using their facial moisturisers.

At the moment I'm using Neutrogena, but what I found with it though (and so did DH) was that it works so well that my skin broke out for the first week or so of using it and now it's great and I get hardly any spots compared with what I use to!

I actually went expensive when I chose to start being an adult and to adopt a skin care routine. I use Clinique, I got it about 4 months ago maybe even 5 and although expensive, it is still going strong, not even half the moistroiser is gone or the facial wash, I will probably be able to get a years use from it.

As an intrim, I would go to the expensive ones, as they all give away free samples, then you could comapre the ingredients to the cheaper stuff and get something to suit!

I have recently changed to Living Nature (www.livingnature.com), it is made in New Zealand, it has no synthetic preservatives and because of this each product has a expiry date which I like the idea of. You can order online through the webpage.

I think i have been so apprehensive to change because i have fairly sensitive skin and get a fair few allergies.. and i always get bad skin at TTOTM, but i spose maybe that coincided with all the other stuff this month, so will how we go for another month maybe then see after that... thanks for all the suggestions,

I'm a Clinique junky and have been for years, however in my defence, one of their facial soaps, bottle of cleanser and a thingee of moisturiser lasts me over 6 months. I used to use the stuff you could buy at the supermarket, but I have sensitive skin and was getting patches of dryness from it. L'Oreal/Garnier is supposed to be pretty good, but it can be expensive when you add it all up together. For a general moisturiser, I use Nivea and it's great. I haven't tried their facial products, but they could be worth a try?
Oh and strawberrynet.com is GREAT. I buy loads of perfume and cosmetics there. They ship for free and are loads cheaper than anything in NZ. A lot of the people on trademe selling bulk cosmetics and perfume buy it there and then onsell.

Oh, and you could always be sneaky and talk to the cosmetics counter people at whatever pharmacy sells it down there and ask for samples to try out.

Anna I have heard that Cetaphil is great! My Friend had really bad acne at one stage and a dermatologist or some kind of doctor person recommended it or prescribed it I cant remember, but anyway her skin has improved so much since she has been on it and she swears by it!

Frantic!! They sell it at Maternity Associates for less-than-pharmacy prices! If you want to try it ask Margaret (reception woman) for some samples!! It is amazing!!
