Does anyone have a good pea and ham soup recipe? Preferably for in the crockpot?

not totally pea and ham (more like bacon and lots of veges)....but totally yummy and easy to throw into crockpot

I just throw everything into the crockpot, then add the spinach right at the end when I take the bacon hock out to get the meat away from the fat & bone (and put the meat back in).....

bacon hock (or bacon bones, but they are messier)
2 or 3 potatoes, diced
2 carrots, diced
about 1/2 leek, sliced thinly
1 medium onion, diced
1 cup split peas
1/2 cup frozen beans
1/2 cup frozen peas

then pour about 1.5-2L of chicken stock over it all (or you could use water instead if you like), plus a dash of soy sauce.

let it go for at least 6 hours on high in the crockpot, then as i said, take out the bacon hock and get the meat back into the pot along with spinach, and let it cook for another 20mins or so. Could probably do it without spinach also

yummo. infact, what we are having for dinner tonight

This is how I make mine - I start the night before and then it's ready for lunch the next day.

Put bacon hock with 1 halved onion, 1 carrot chopped into chunks, 1-2 sticks of celery, bay leaf and some peppercorns in the crockpot and cover with water. Leave on low overnight.

In the morning take out all veggies, pull meat off the bone and pop it back into the crockpot with some split peas. Turn up to high and leave for about 4 hours. The peas will go all mushy and just adjust the amount depending on how thick you want it.

I usually add a whole lot of chopped veggies as well - potato, carrot, swede, parsnip, kumara etc and a handful of soup mix as well.

i admit I cheat a bit, I get a packet of kings pea and ham soup mix and some stock in the crockpot with a bacon hock and split peas (lots cos i like mine super thick) and leave it over night then in the morning cut the meat off the bone and throw it back in for a couple of hours and then voila ... YUM
