After I delivered DS I was transferred to St Georges by choice as it was recommended my SIL and MW and was closer to where I lived at the time. I must admit I loved it there, the staff, food etc was awesome.
This time the closest is Lincoln and I was wondering if any of you CHCH mum's have been there before after birth and what are your thoughts of the place?
I am finding it hard to sway towards Lincoln as I have never been there before however it is only a 10 min drive from where I live as opposed to 30 mins to St Georges.

I love lincoln! I can't wait to go back. I attempted my first birth there, but it went a bit awol and I was transfered into town before back out. They welcomed us so warmly on our return, hottie in both of our beds etc. The midwife made awesome milos and latched DD for me in my sleep.

I'm exciting about attempting to have this baby at Lincoln, and will definately transfer back if it turns to custard again (of course it helps that it's 20mins instead of an hour away )

Do you get your own room in Lincoln? Do you have your own shower at all? At St Georges the room I was in was just that and I had to use communal showers.

Nope, you share showers. There is also a lovely deep bath. Some rooms are individual, then there is like....a long massively wide corrider sunny side out, divided by curtains in a way, and you get your own area. That sounds awful, but its quite lovely.

I did pop on to say though, I'm going back there because I know it and I know I'll be comfy. Its nowhere near as modern as St. Georges from what I have heard, but then, if you know that, and you know how comfy you are there, will time travelling mean much and would you be better there anyway?

I'm a mum to be out that way as well. Will be going to Lincoln for ante-natal classes in August so it will be good to have a look around.

When do I need to decide where I want to transfer to? I'm currently booked in at CWH and St Georges for the birth - DH is excited about St George's proximity to McDonalds for mealtimes - but haven't really thought about where to go afterwards yet.

Lincoln is about 10 minutes drive from home (aka Rolleston) and ohhh it would nicely cut back on all the over-eager but well-meaning people who like to visit new mums and bubs while they're still in hospital.

I didn't birth at Lincoln (ended up having emer. C-Sec at womens at 32hr labour!) but I did do antenatal classes there. Didn't find the Antenatal classes much help, the educator was a bit... boring..... and waffled on about her own life a bit much. Anyway, that's besides the point. After our tour of Lincoln, I decided I didn't want to birth there cause I thought it all looked a bit old school with the curtains separating the rooms etc so I chose St Georges as where I wanted to birth (but that didn't happen). It's a much more inviting place!
However...... a few of the ladies in my Antenatal Group either birthed at Lincoln or went there after having their bubs at Womens and they cannot stop RAVING about how great it was. Great food, great staff, great advice! A lot more than what I got at CHCH Womens thats for sure!

Alice you can book in to both and choose on the day, is my belief It depends on how busy they are as to where you may end up going anyway. If one is full then you'll be asked to choose another centre, so its good to have a back up plan. (Hope that doesnt happen to me, I was the only one at Lincoln for most of my stay last time! Desprately don't want to be in town )
