Topic: Round ligament pain Posted: 18 May 2010 at 9:14pm |
Hi everyone
I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what round ligament pain feels like and where you feel it?
I have been having this pain on and off on my right side, reasonably high like just above my hip, and sometimes it goes to my back at that same place.
It feels kind of like a stabby, dull, stitchy sort of pain. It's not like a cramp at all, and nowhere near where I thought baby would be.
It is frightening me because 3 weeks ago I had terrible pain on the right side and ended up having my appendix out. The pain was near to the same place is is now, but it was a different pain it was excruciating and never went away, whereas this just comes and goes and is mild, so I don't think its the same thing... and the pain I had before went away after my operation and this one started in the last few days to a week.
I don't want to go back to the doctor just yet because I fear they won't do anything as when I had my operation they checked all of everything else out and it as all normal and fine, normal bloods all good, apart from the appendix obviously. But it is scary and a bit upsetting so yeah if anyone else has had a pain like this please let me know thanks :)

Could you give your midwife a call Lisa? The only other thing I could think of it maybe as your uterus is growing, it is starting to push a bit where your scar tissue is? I know my sister had bad pains from scar tissue from an ectopic she had? Hope it gets better soon xx

Hi Lisa, I'm also having some quite bad pain, esp around where my stitches were...and I'm sure it's as KH said, the pain is prob from scar tissue (and ther baby growing can be pretty ouchie anyway!). Are you still taking pain relief? I'm having to take Panadol every 6 hours still as the pain has been yuck....I'm trying to move the times out more now 2 weeks on but if you need it, you need it! Def go to the Dr or mw if you're worried tho hun.

I haven't been taking painkillers anymore as I was trying to get off them for the baby but I might if the pain gets worse. A heat pack does the trick though have you tried one Emmecat?
Its ok today, its not really bad just annoying and worrying. I hadn't thought about scar tissue, maybe it is that.
I will see the GP on the weekend if it hasn't gone, but I am wary because it's not really that bad and I don't know what else they could do. Before my operation I had a full abdominal ultrasound of my organs and also they looked around with a camera when I had my appendix done and it was all fine, so I don't know what could have come up in that short space of time. I dont have another $200+ for another ultrasound either :S
I will talk to the specialist about it at my next appointment when I go in 2 weeks as well

I get some quite sharp pains sometimes around where my appendix was taken out. I get them more on that side then the other and sometimes they are quite sharp and strong. They usually go away if I sit down and relax.
never thought about scar tissue actually but it seems to make sense!

I had them early on in pregnancy, mainly on RHS, sometimes they took my breath away. Found the the heat pack really worked, I didn't have them for very long thankfully.

Kellyverona I assume it is yeah, where I have my pain also is not where I know baby sits, its much higher up so I think itll be all right. I don't use a burning hot one. Definitely try it because it really does help

That is interesting as I have had exactly the same pain on my right hand side, and had worried it might be my appendix. But it goes away for weeks on end, then comes back. I mentioned it to my OB and he said he tends to think pain where I was describing it relates to the lower bowel.
I am trying to be positive and putting it down to round ligament pain. It's not agony, just a stabbing pain I am aware of.
