to get your eyes checked?

I think I am going blind! I have known for a while I need to get my vision tested. My Mother was the first to comment on how blind I am because I couldn't read street signs until we are getting very close. Now I am sitting here in front of my computer and struggling to see clearly....

Anyone know how much it costs for an eye test? And how much for glasses if I do need them?

The main cost of glasses is the lenses and it would depend on what type of lenses you go for.

Specsavers in Henderson were doing eye exams for $10.00 so try them first.

I think Specsavers are the cheapest around at the moment for glasses.

I can't remember what I paid for my last optometrist appointment but it would have been over $50. The last pair of glasses I bought were around $400 but you can get much cheaper ones. I'm lucky - DP's sister is an optometrist so I get discounted glasses and contact lenses through her and sometimes see her for free for an optometrist appointment (but haven't for a while as she lives AGES away from us).

Not in Auckland, in Wellington at OPSM I paid $75 for an eye exam and then needed special lenses and in the end paid $700 all up.

Do you have a Specsavers up there? I recommend going there! BIL got an eye exam and 2 pairs of glasses for... $350. And not cheap ones either!

I'm getting mine tested at Specsavers in Wellington on Friday. I'll let you know. I assume all Specsavers have the same deals.

I do know they do $79 glasses

yeah getting my eyes checked is about $65 but on top of that I have to pay for contacts or glasses lenses depending on what I want done. I haven't had mine done in a few yrs but I know nothing is wrong with my eyes but I have to organise a appt soon and can only do it when I have a babysitter.

Try looking in the local rag as there are often some free ones or try ringing around

I have an appt at Specsavers tomorrow - I'm going for their "two for $x" deals...they have two for $99, two for $129, two for $199, two for $299 etc (and upwards). Considering my DH's last pair was $700 (approx 2 years ago) and my last pair was $540 (6 years ago...hence my appt tomorrow as I can't read a lot of street signs), then they're darn good prices. You can also get one pair of sunnies and one pair of normal glasses for that price, which is probably the deal that I will go for (the frames just have to cost the same price).

Ooh that would be so tempting minik8e! It is our health after all lol.

It is a bit of a problem not being able to read street signs. But I even had to ask a lady at the post shop to read me my license number yesterday. I don't seem to have a problem when reading books... the cumputer screen is a pita though.... guess no harm in sussing it out... better now than later I guess!

Yeah I have problems with street signs, etc but I have a good memory so first time going places is a pain but once I get there I never forget! I can even work my way round Auckland without a map or anything *feels proud!*

But definitely think it's great you are going!

Alex - do you have southern cross? Because I can claim on optometrists and glasses/contacts on mine, so worth checking your policy if you have one.

I went to the Tamaki Campus of Auckland University and they were $40 plus they do checks for other stuff that isn't usually included. The trainee does all the checks then a superviser comes and double checks so you need a bit of extra time.

ahahaha! That's why I'm going too. Well I've had fuzzy eyes for a month since I increased my work hours (computer based). I'm just not sure if it's tiredness leading to fuzzy eyes or vice versa

Oh and I didn't know Southern Cross covered it LF. Must check our policy.
