I really like my OB - he works in the Hutt so you might not want to travel out here but he's called Barton Matshe and works out of Boulcott Hospital (delivers babies in Hutt Hospital)

He's got a good sense of humour, really knows his stuff and goes back to Zimbabwe from time to time to do charity work with AIDS patients/babies from what I hear. Also has 3 kids of his own so has real life parenthood experience :)

best to sort it out quickly the OBs in Welly book up incredibly quickly as there aren't that many of them!

same goes for the midwives actually.

I booked in with Barton at 5 weeks pregnant!!

Second the advice on getting in quickly! Southern Cross on Hanson St in Newtown have a number of great OBs. Had Jeremy Tuohy for my first - would highly recommend him. Was too slow to get him for my 2nd (at 9 weeks!) and am with Val Schenk in the same practice instead. She's also amazing and lovely and I'd highly recommend her too. There are two other OBs in the same practice, but I don't know them.

I went through Michel Sangalli. He is in Newtown. Fantastic is all I can say about him.

I know someone who's had a problem pregnancy and swears by the care they've had at southern cross in newtown, with jeremy in particular.

I had Jeremy Tuohy for my first baby too - although through the high risk team, not privately. He was good and ceratinly extremely experienced and compentent, but in my opinion he had a tendency to medicalise things more than the Obs I have now with this pregnancy...
