Topic: Napier Midwife Help Posted: 11 August 2010 at 4:02pm |
My sister-in-law is shifting to Napier later on in her pregnancy. Due Dec 2010.
She needs names of midwives if you guys can help
Also what is the Napier hospital like to birth in etc.
I said if you can't find someone you can go under the hospital midwives. I guess she's concerned with what will happen with the follow-up care.

The Hawkes Bay hospital is actually in Hastings (only 15 mins ish drive from Napier) and I found it really good. Most of the rooms are single rooms with your own bathroom and the care I had there was excellent. There is also a unit in Napier - I'm not sure if you can birth there or just transfer there after giving birth...she could ask about it anyway if she wanted to stay somewhere closer to home after the birth.
My midwife is Barb Penny who is great, been around for years so really experienced. But probably booked out for December already. Her number is 06 8440310. I have a couple of friends who use Donna Foote (Foot?) who is also really well known, I'm not sure what her number is but I'm sure she could look it up.
Hope that helps :)

You can birth at Napier if they have room (they have 3 rooms, 1 with birth pool) and you are low risk otherwise you have to go to Hastings (they have 6? rooms, 2? with pools).
I'm under the hospital MW's/OB's and they have been great so far, i'm not using them for aftercare though so can't help with that.
I am using Annie Price for aftercare, she was my MW up until about 20 weeks when i was put under secondary care and the hosp said i can't have a MW anymore.

Yes its at Hastings hospital for anything but really low risk. My midwife was at Hastings Medical Centre so I think your Sister may want someone who also does the Napier area so no help there however I did want to reassure you/her that Hastings hospital (at least in my experience) is a wonderful place to give birth, very comfortable birthing rooms, 2 hours with bubs afterwards without moving (all going well) and then postnatal is 18ish rooms most single and 2 with shared bathroom only.

Well, I have very little knowledge of midwives in the area as I have only really just moved back here, but my current midwife is based in Napier. Her name is Liezel Venter and she is absolutely lovely!! Good luck to your SIL for finding someone suitable
