Topic: Crampy & tightenings after sex Posted: 15 August 2010 at 4:35pm |
Grrr, typical that the one time I have a ?n for my MW she's on holiday.
After sex, I get quite crampy and last night (24 hours afterward) had one or two tightenings lasting a minute or so - reminded me of the night before Dan was born. Does anyone else get this? I'm not too worried cos I have a history of a stubborn cervix but am just wondering if we should be more cautious???

If you orgasmed (not just him) I'd say it sounds like a normal reaction to the flood of hormones that usually happens after sex, in combination with all the stuff that is already floating around from the pregnancy - but of course, I could be totally talking out my arse!

My false labour at 32 weeks started after dp and I had sex. About 10 mins after started getting contractions and they were 8mins, then 5 mins apart lasting about 45 secs. Mw had me come into hosp and monitor it and sure enough I was having contractions that replicated I was in labour but cervix was completely shut and remained that way. I would give mw or back up a call/text if you are concerned or worried... It was one tiring day though! Hope it subsides!

I haven't orgasmed for the last few months either, but have been all good with BDing because of the sperm helping the cervix etc, and I know exactly what you are talking about, but then I'm a little further on. Still, I'd say it's normal

Righto, I'd say it's a reaction to the prostaglandins in his swimmers then But yeah, I'd still run it past your midwife - especially if they were to get really painful (like not just labour painful but 'wrong' painful).

It's normal. Even now at 18 wks I get some tightenings afterwards. I guess this is why many ppl say that sex helps to bring things on in late pgcy. But until then, unless you have been bleeding, there is no concern.

Cool, thanks OB MWs! I'll talk with my MW when I see her in a fortnight unless it gets worse. And no, there's no bleeding or anything, just the cramping and tightening.
We've actually been told to increase the frequency after 32 weeks cos of a failed induction last time - that the natural prostaglandin might help us avoid the synthetic stuff next time. So I'm kindof pleased that it's probably the prostaglandin (which is what I suspected) - might have some show of not going well overdue again!

Sounds pretty positive! Sometimes the inductions don't work so well if bubs is not in a good position. So hopefully you won't have any issues this time around.
