Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone can give me any idea on how much part-time care will cost for 2 babies, newborn (1 month old) and 1 year old. We will be needing part-time care for our wee ones next year from Feb 2011 from around 2pm -4pm Monday to Friday. I don't know how daycare part-time works. Please advise:) Thanks heaps

Hiya - Whilst looking for daycares I found that some offer part time hours but it is for school hours often ie 9-3 so it is almost a full day's cost. I didn't come across any that would have done 2 hours like you are looking for.

I would perhaps look at Porse or another inhome care agency to see if there is a carer willing to do 2 hours a day?

Thanks Monkey 33 any idea on how much 2 hours of care will cost per day or if the rates are weekly? I figure there's no harm in looking now for next year as time will just fly buy. I like the idea of a part time carer but it's just the costing we're after with all/any possible options available to us.

Daniels daycare did a minimum of 3hrs at a time, no less than that and they wouldn't take a newborn. You will have to ring around cause each area and centre will differ

G's daycare only takes kids from 3 months and up, but you can pay by the hour. I have Gabrielle booked in for one whole day and two part days (one is 7.30am - 1.30pm and the other 7.30am - 2.30pm) and hers lets me pays by the hour. I get a subsidy as well so I can't remember exactly how much it is but I think its approx $6.50 an hour.

Our boys do part-time daycare hours, they are in the toddler side, and they do a total of 13.5 hours a week - we do mornings 9.30 - 2 3days a week, but when we first put them in they were just doing 9 hours a week.

It's about $91 each for them now, but with their WINZ subsidy I only pay $160 a fortnight. I think that is OK, they love it. But I guess it depends where your centre is for costs, they all vary depending on where they are based. Ours is way out west - it's rural

some daycares offer 12:30 - 6pm and from memory back when I was looking it was $50 a day full time and I think it was slightly more for part time hrs.

in home care like porse or barnardos charge anywhere from 5.75- 7 plus dollars per hour per child depending on the caregiver. Totally depends on the caregiver and if they are willing to do small hours as it is their income. ring around a few places for an idea.

Ours is going to be $75 per day (per child) regardless of how long they are there (they are open from 7:30am till 6pm). They only take babies form 3 months - I haven't seen any that will take them younger.

So I would agree that PORSE or a nanny would be a better way to go?? There might be some that are willing to just do a few hours (eg on their day off for some extra $$$). That can cost anywhere from $6-20 per hour depending on who you get and whether they look after your children in your home or theirs.

Sorry not much help!

P :)

Thanks everyone. I've been online and sent quite a few emails enquiring as to times and costs (also informing them of the ages of my babies in Feb 2011), so I'm hoping for some clear figures to work with for next year. Thanks again and blessings everyone

Here we pay per hour - which in my case is $5.50 (although I technically have a nanny so cheep as)

For example - 3 different palces here charge 3 different amounts ranging from $4.10 per hour (very good daycare but hard as to get into) to $5.20 (home based care)

every centres different, if you can find one to do those hours its usually about $8-$10 an per child. in home care is possibly more cost effective as i think lots of them are around $5 an hr

Thanks everyone:)...With the govt. cutting back funding for ECE many of the daycares are increasing their fees...so I'm looking at the local language nests too as they are already much cheaper ($80 per week fulltime) as well...my colleague's daughter uses PORSE for her wee boy at $10 per hour part time...if I use that as a guide it will be $200 per week for the babies for 2 hours per day ( 5 days )which is still good too...either way, we don't qualify for any subs as we earn in the higher bracket but we also carry LOTS of pre-babies debt!...if only I'd saved for any "just in case' pregnancies
