We're really struggling with trying to find a name for our second boy that is due in November. We've spent a lot of time on this task!

One name that we have agreed is Ashton.

But I am really worried that it is too similar to Jackson.

Jackson and Ashton.

Would really love your absolute honest opinion here! DH doesn't see the problem but I think the 'on/on" stuff is too similar.

Thoughts?

I like

Ashton is an old name....it was my Pop's middle name and I would've seriously considered it had we been having a boy (and if DF's stupid surname wasn't so hard to match lol). I don't think you'll have any problems with the on/on thing....in fact it's quite cute

Ashton is lovely though, maybe as a middle name?

They do have a similar ending sound, and the can cause confusion when calling them. My brother and I both our names end in similar sounds and we were forever ignoring our mother cause we thought she was calling the other person. (wasn't always intentional)

Nice names maybe not together though.

I like Ashton but not Jackson. Reason is that there are too many people I know with kids called Jackson and I like names that are not too common. I wouldn't have them together tho but I am not sure if that is what you are asking or not.

What about James as the middle name.

Already have a Jackson (Jackson James), so this is for bubs number two.

Mixed opinions huh? This is too hard.

I like them both and think that Ashton will get called Ash anyway very quickly and jackson will most likely get shortened to Jack..........so maybe you need to think if you like Ash and Jack.......even if you dont want them shortened, its a given, people just do

Are you planning on using Ashton or a nickname for him?

If you plan on calling him Ash id say go for it.

Meh, if you like it .... oops, that's right, you're not sure if you do

I don't think it's a problem. They have different sounds at the start of each syllable, which helps differentiate them.

I do like the idea of Austin though - if you're worried about J&A sounding too similar, then that might be a way around it.

Oh, and it's not like you'll always be saying "Jackson and Ashton" together, so that would make me say don't worry about it.

Toooooooooooo hard.

I think originally we probably wouldn't shorten. Or maybe we would. We don't use Jack, but do use JJ.
Can't have Asher as our surname ends in 'er'.

The only other option we have is Charlie. However that goes against our 'rules' of having a name that can be shortened or nicknamed if the child so desires. I can't stand Charles but think Charlie is cute for a kid, but not so great for a grown up.

Have been agonising over this for ages and am starting to feel the pressure go on!
