Topic: Schools Closed Posted: 07 September 2010 at 8:00pm |
Schools/Daycares are closed until Monday here in CHCH.
My work is open and I'm not sure whether the days I have to take off will be regarded as annual leave, or if they won't take it out of any of my leave...if you know what I am saying?
Does anyone know what it should be coming out of?

Think it will depend on the company to be honest.. big firms will likely take is a sick leave/compassionate leave but small business will likely take it as A/L.. best discuss with your boss/HR department.

A government department should give you compassionate. I worked for one and they gave me all the time off I needed for when the boys were sick or things like that.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

i think legally, they don't have to do anything, but a lot of the bigger companies are paying out the wages - progressive, warehouse and a few more.

i work for a big company and i know the leave iv taken this week is something called "special leave " as my work is in the cbd and we cannot go to work , Bubs preschool is also closed till monday , my work told me they would cover any more leave i had to take if preschool was closed longer or if i didnt feel comfortable leaving her at this time . im not too sure about other companys but my work has been amazing through this whole thing , At this very moment they are looking for somewhere for me and my family to stay (and they will pay for it ) as we are now at day 6 without water and a sick baby ( gastro ) they will also supply security of my house when we leave . i am very lucky to be working for such a big company . i really feel for small buisnesses at the moment
