Topic: Urgent BF help needed Posted: 18 September 2010 at 8:39pm |
Who should I contact for urgent breast feeding help for sick Mum and baby?
I have tried to contact lactation consultant the only one in Gisbone, and also a LLL bf counsellor but havent been able to get hold of either of them.
Its physically very hard for me to talk cos of how sick I am, and there is a lot of explaining Im gonna have to do, so I want to ring the right person asap and not have to phone lots of places to get the help we need. We dont need help for our illnesses- have been to Dr's lots and are sorted, but need urgent bf help.
TIA

Yeah I agree with Mel, fattarts would be brilliant to talk to, and you wouldnt need to talk just type.

Is Judy the lactation consultant you are talking about? If not, she's a gisborne-based consultant and I have her number here if you need it. She's really nice

Thanks everyone. Wasnt well enough to get back on here til now. Ended up ringing plunketline and getting great help from them- narrowly avoiding another hospital admission. Has been a hideous week!

Thanks.
I didnt even know there was a consultant here called Judy. Every time Ive asked Ive been told there is only one in Gizzy, and its not her!
Did get hole of the LC that I was talking baout yesterday, and she has been really great too, ringing and txting today - its easier for me to txt than talk cos my breathing still not great.
Aiden and I are both doing much better. He was able to have a full bf before bed tonight- fed him in the bath and the steam in the bathroom helped keep his nose clear while he fed.
Have had another day of plenty of rest, expressing and gettin protein into me!

Ahghh, hope you're ok Kelz, I remember having a nightmare getting hold of the lactation consultant here too - and we were in the hospital so it shouldn't have been that hard for her to find us!! The most helpful person at Gisborne Hospital was a nurse called June (she's a grandma, I think that's her name!...she's on ward four/planet sunshine), she got Jarvis feeding properly after nobody else had been able to help us!
We're away for the weekend, but if you need anything I'll PM you my mobile number & I'm happy to help in any way I can!

Thanks everyone. We are going well now. Got the feeding sorted and back on track. Spend 2 whole days in bed, pumping 2 hrly. Had DH home from work and my Mum here too helping with me and the sick kids. The LC was great- was in daily contact with her til we got sorted. Aiden has been able to fully bf again for a few days now, no longer needing to have ebm by bottle.
Thanks for the comments and support.
Glad to report we on the mend. Actutally went out today for the first time in 12 days (other than for Dr's appts)!
