Ok now you will think I'm CRAZY

I'm putting together a list of songs for a group of kids to sing at an old folks home...
Which would you suggest. Any favourite? Preferably easy to learn/sing.

What ages are the kids?

Back in the day, when I was in our school choir, we used to do songs like White Christmas (popular with the oldies), Silent Night, Away in a Manger, Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer ....

There was a new zealand one we used to sing too, but I can't remember the name of it just now!

Do you have to be PC and not have any christian songs. If you do then deck the halls and jingle bells are good also frosty the snowman and we wish you a merry christmas. Otherwise if you are allowed to refer to the actual reason for christmas then away in the manger, silent night.

The funky monkeys have a neat one call Christmas in the Summertime. My class (6-8 year olds) loved singing it and all made up actions.

The Love to Sing Christmas CD is fantastic, use it a lot working in early childhood, easy catchy songs.

My son's class sang this last year at his prize giving
slightly inappropriate

to the tune of "jingle bells"

I heard a reindeer hoof, then Santa dressed in red,
came crashing thro' the roof and landed on my bed.
I thought it was a dream, but quickly did I wake,
as soon as I heard Santa scream, "I want a piece of cake!"

CHORUS
Oh, Santa Claus, Santa Claus, you are much too fat;
I was sleeping peacefully but not my bed is flat. Oh!
Santa Claus, Santa Claus, how much do you weigh?

I'm glad I'm not a reindeer that has to pull your sleigh!

He got up off the floor and said, "How do you do?"
I said, "My back is sore, my head is black and blue."
"So sorry!" he replied, and then he asked my name.
He offered me a ride, I said, "No, thank you just the same!" CHORUS

I heard a "ho, ho, ho," the sleigh was in the sky.
but it was moving slow and wasn't very high.
It wobbled in the air, I hoped it wouldn't fall;
Said Santa, chewing cookies, "Merry Christmas, one and all!" CHORUS

My favourite Christmas song is Fairytale of New York.

But I don't think it's appropriate for kids to sing

If it's for a rest home I would think that some of the trad songs would be appropriate.

Away in a manger, Silent Night, Deck the Halls, We wish you a merry Christmas, The Holly and the Ivy, We three Kings, O little town of Bethlehem, Good King Wenceslas etc etc etc plus some more 'modern' ones thrown in.  Depends on how many you want and how much variety you need but actually I think you would find that in a rest home they are likely to appreciate a bit of a mix.
