Hi there. Just wondering if there are any others out there that have children who have experienced seizures? My daughter (who is 11 now) had her first at 9months of age then she had one approximately every couple of months til the age of 4. These were always related to fevers which is quite common in children. Because of the frequency she was having them she did see a Paediatrician and had an EEG at the time to check for epilepsy which was all negative.
I am pretty sure she had one in her sleep a few years back, at the time she was feverish and had the typical post seizure look when I found her.

Just last week at the age of 11 she had another seizure but this time was not related to any fevers or illness, she was with her dad at the time and taken to the docs who checked for signs of infection, checked her heart rate. She was unconscious for about 20mins immediately after the seizure then on return from the doctors she had quite a severe headache and slept deeply for about 4 hours. This was a bit of a shock as it was completely unexpected in that she was otherwise well, no fevers, no signs of infection.

Just hoping there may be someone else out there who has had experience with seizures in children. I have asked she be referred to a paediatrician again to have another EEG to compare with one she had at age two to see if she does in fact have epilepsy. Is there anything else I should be asking about??? Anyone have any similar experiences??

TIA

I had my first seizure at 5 and was on medication for epilepsy from around age 9 to age 13. I continued to have seizures every couple of years. I had the EEG testing when I was about 8 I think with no conclusive results. I had further testing at Greenlane when I was in my late twenties and they told me that I never had epilepsy but vasovagal syncope which is just another name for fainting. In my case it is brought on by standing for too long causing my blood pressure to drop or being too hot or a combination of the two. I will still have a seizure if I am not lying down when I pass out. If I am sitting up I will have the seizure.

Ask for a "tilt-table" test which is where you are hooked up to a number of machines (blood pressure, heart rate etc) and they lay you down for a while then put you up at an angle to see how long it is until you pass out (or not as the case may be) then they can monitor how you blood pressure, heart rate reacts when you do faint.

I hope this helps and I have no medical background just a bit of experience.
