ahhhh the kidneys - you're talking my language! (well, actually, you're not, but I recognise some words from my own checkered medical past). Pyelocaliceal is to do with the renal system - or kidneys, urinary tract, peeing parts etc. (I once had pyelonephritis). A quick by proxy search of a site that you shouldn't go anywhere near suggests that the thingee that your mw mentioned is something that is reasonably common and shows up in ultrasounds but tends to go away by birth.

Thanks Maree and Maria. The u/s yesterday showed that Sienna, the smaller baby, has this. Am really hoping she hasn't inherited her mothers dodgy kidneys! But the report was pretty blase so I didn't think it could be too serious. But the m/w is going to ring me later so I can ask her.

Thanks again

that maybe what Jake had.   on my last ultrasound the sonographer mentioned that Jake's kidney wasd enlarged. So of course I freaked out. My m/w said it was nothing to be worried about. If it continued to be enlarged they may drain at birth which was a minor procedure. When he was three dyas old they did a scan and everything was back to normal. what you are saying sounds simliar but i'm not sure exactly.

Hannah's left lateral ventricle was enlarged (?) at the 20 week ultrasound. All fixed by the time we got to the 33 week ultrasound! Did worry me a little tho.

Hope the same thing works for little Sienna!

Thanks ladies!

Liz you may well be right - the m/w told me it's something that often comes up at scans and they just get a paediatrician to check baby at birth. Either way she's not worried at all. Which is a relief to me!
