Topic: special cuddles = bring on labour? Posted: 10 November 2010 at 4:13pm |
Has anybody used "special cuddles" as a means of bringing on labour with success? Guess you don't really know what brings it on but just wondering....
The thought of it is so unappealing and wondering whether we should bother - but am just interested in what others think.

I got desperate at 41 weeks. I was awake all night with a hard, sore tummy but no labour :( However, Jody still wasn't engaged so I guess she wasn't ready anyway

I love the quote "the only thing sex induces is pregnancy, not labour"
The prostaglandin in sperm can help ripen the cervix, but I reckon that if the baby ain't ready to come, it ain't gonna come, not matter what you do. My MW says if you are going to use sex to try and induce, you need to do it at least 3-4 times a week (hah). Orgasm is meant to help bring on uterine contractions.
EPO vaginally is another option for cervical ripening.
I'm in the same boat as you - I'm just tired and it's getting too uncomfortable to be enjoyable!

We tried it, but it didn't seem to do anything. I agree with what Flissty said, if bub isn't ready nothing is going to make them come out!
Hopefully your bub doesn't keep you waiting too much longer

Well there must be something to it, while in hosptal being induced (it took a couple of days) all the mw's and the ob told us to go into the bathroom and lock the door......
Yeah cos I was soooo keen on doiing it in the shower at 37 weeks. As they pointed out, there were handles though

All it did for me was give me painful contractions that fizzled out by early morning

All sex did was give me a sore crampy uterus but agree that if you aren't ready down there and baby isn't ready then it won't do anything.

Well i'm pretty sure it worked for me.
With my son i think it wasn't long after "special cuddles" that i had my show and started getting mild irregular contractions. My waters didn't break till 4 days later though (at 40w 2d), and i had to be induced the next day and he arrived that night.
With my daughter my waters broke a couple of hours after "special cuddles" (at 39w 4d). Hehe. But unfortunately the same thing happened as last time and i had to be induced the following day. Luckily it was a much shorter labour and the birth was way better.
So yeah i believe it can work.

I'm pretty sure it worked for me too. The problem is for it to work you have to orgasm and I found that part pretty tricky when heavily pregnant, finding a good position is that much harder. However we managed and I woke up with full-on contractions 4 hours later.

It didnt bring on labour (that happened a week later) but I did have my show not long after.
I do believe that your body has to be ready or NONE of the induction methods will work including the drugs the hospital give you!

It all sounds like too much hard work. Think I'd rather try EPO and a hot curry and enjoy the last few nights of sleep Although once you get this pg, there ain't much of that happening, I know!

Worked for me and we weren't even trying to get the baby out (a few days before 37wks). But my water broke about half an hour after special cuddles

I am pretty sure it worked for us
The next day I went into labour but in saying that I was already 8 days overdue so chances were high I guess

Um ok so we had special cuddles last night, and this morning I've woken up with really quite regular tightenings across the top of my bump that feel different to my usual BH and def different to how labour started with Clodagh (absolutely knew it with her cos it started full on and very quickly). I really am not sure what's going on or if special cuddles had anything to do with it? It's not very comfy anyway!
