My little one has been vomiting quite a lot when he has a formula bottle and he vomits for quite a while after having it. I'm assuming his tummy isn't handling the particular formula very well and would like to try another but I don't know which to try. Any advice?

He's been on SMA and has had between 1 and 3 bottles a day for the last 2 weeks (he's breastfed the rest of the time).

Unfortunately i think it is a case of trial and error as what suits one baby won't necessarily suit another. Zac was on S26 in hospital (which I didn't like as it stinks, especially when they spill ). We have been using Karicare since coming home and it seems to be ok - he is still spilling a little but nowhere near as much as on the S26. You can buy sachets of different types at the supermarket but I think it may take a few days of using each one to see if it agrees with your baby. GL!

We used Karicare Gold and never had a lot of problems with spilling. We did get a little bit of constipation, but I think thats prob just our boy more than the formula!

I would buy the sachets from the supermarket and try and see what one works.

We bought Karicare Gold to start which caused constipation in DS, we switched to the normal Karicare and had no problems since but we did try a few sachets first as it's not cheap to buy whole tins if they aren't going to work.

I hope you find one that works, all the best!

Does anyone know if unopened tins of formula can be returned to the supermarket?

We had constipation with Karicare have changed to Nuture and DD is much better, no vomiting and regular poos.
I got the sachets to try first to see how she went with it.

I know SMA made a few of my friends babies quite unwell, so I stayed away from that one.

We used S26 and had no issues with it at all

My mum swore by Nuture, MIL swears by Karikare Gold. DD has had both and no problems, though it's only been 1 bottle here, another bottle there and since 6 months.

Yep, just take your receipt with you - I did this the other day (although I swapped for a tin of a different brand) .

You may like to start by trying a whey-based formula like Karicare from birth?  SMA is casien-based (I think - check the ingredients on the tin?) and this may be what is upsetting your baby?  Or it could be a reaction to dairy/lactose, in which case you could try the more expensive goat or soy formulas?

Definitely worth switching brands - wish I'd done so earlier with DD, as we recently switched from whey-based to casien-based and she finally started wanting to drink a whole bottle after months of fighting.

Oh and also, just remember that the recommended amounts on the tin are only a guide - some babies need much less than they say.  Eg DD only ever took 700-750ml per day between ages 5 weeks and 7 months and is a large, chubby baby .

I had terrible problems with gas + constipation + baby spitting up when I gave my baby (9.5wks old now) s-26 gold, Karicare goat's milk formula (super expensive!!!!) also tried karicare soy which he refused to take (smells terrible too!) and finally discovered a lactose free formula (S-26 LF) which apparently is easier on the baby's stomach. Worth a try, it isn't that expensive about $27 a can from countdown.

Although I have been told the 'Gold' tins aren't as good as the standard ones, like harsher on their tums or something, but I can't remember exactly what I was told sorry!

We are on the lactose free by S26 as well, soooo much cheaper than goat! Definitely works for my wee guy - he finds the standard whey formulas very hard to digest.

the Gold formulas all have omega 3 and/or fish oil added, I stayed away from them as I couldn't see the point in her having that in her diet.. seemed more or a marketing ploy than anything else
