Hi everyone,

I'm new to Wellington and I need to see a gynae soon. I suspect I have a pelvic prolapse and would like to have this repaired (no amount of kegels are helping and the situation is getting worse).

Do I need to be referred by a GP or can I just call someone and make an appointment?

Also, has anyone had repair surgery and then had more kids? Did you need a c-section?

I know there are lots of questions. I'd appreciate any advice from anyone who's been there!

I have heard wonderful things about Hanifa Koya from several people.  She works privately through Southern Cross.

I'm afraid I'm not sure about the other questions - I would just ring Southern Cross and see what they say about making an appt for yourself.  Hopefully you'll be able to do that instead of having to go through a GP.

Thank you! Did your friend get a prolapse repair done by her, do you mean?

Will give Southern Cross a ring. Thanks again.

I had what I think was just VERY weak pelvic floor but almost a prolapse after my first. Thankfully it came right with time...you have my sympathies. But I was talking to my OB at the time who said they try to wait till you have completed your family before doing surgery....but I guess that is if they dont absolutely have to. I was worried about it with my second and he was a c-section...but I was told the mere act of carrying a baby and all that weight can put strain on your pelvis too. Thankfully I didnt have any problems.

Good luck!

Oh and my mum had repair surgery.....havent heard any complaints...but she was well finished with kids by that stage.

The friends I know who've been cared for by her have either had hysterectomies or laparoscopies for endometriosis.  I'm afraid I don't know of anyone who has had prolapse repair.
