Well the story starts not long after her 3 month injections. Olivia was completely inconsolable as well as teething and getting over the misery of injections it started becoming impossible to get food into her. After some quick checking around I found out that the symptoms were common of silent reflux. A trip to the Dr later I was armed with Gavisgon and a fresh sence that I could become not only a better mother but also have a happier child. Well the Gavisgon worked exceptionally well. Then last week as I was making my usual pilgrimage down the Woolworths baby isle (they have the best range and sometimes the best prices so it is always worth a look). When I bumped into my stepmum's friend who enquired after Olivia's helth, she had seen Olivia on one of the worst days after her imm.'s and was convinced there was something else wrong (which by then I knew, but you never like hearing that there is someting wrong with your child from another person). She told me the story of her son who had the worst reflux when he was a baby, I mean she would feed him then place him on a plastic mat to burp him because it would have power, smell and staining power! "I took him to an Osteopath who gave him a feel over and found that his tummy was twisted and that he had several vertibrae out as well as a bump on his head, all of it happened at birth, and after she fixed him up he downed a whole bottle and never had reflux again!" Well I can be terrible at holding a grudge against people, and since this was not one of my most favourite people in the world I can be honest and say that my first instinct was to give the "Whatever" and go about my merry business. Fortunately motherhood has changed me for the better, I'm more willing to listen to others now than what I ever was. So I went home and browsed my yellow pages and decided to give the first Osteopath in the book a ring to find out what he did and what he charged. I left a message as he wasn't in and an hour later when he rang up he gave me the info that I needed, not only was I crying but I had made an appointment. What a wonderful man.
So I arrived for my appointment early, sat there and waited for him to finish with his client. As he eventually welcomed me into his office he took Olivia in his arms then began to chat softly to her as her felt her chest, he also talked to me about her reflux symptoms and Olivia's current heart murmur. "She actually doesn't have anything wrong with her tummy, it is just a twisted ligiment under her heart". He chatted to her again softly, his hand still on her chest. Unfortunatly Olivia spotted me and must have seen the grave look on my face as she started to cry (the bottom lip drop). Thankfully she is easily pacified with a small squeaky toy. He handed her back and Olivia let out a couple of burps (very funny in my stressed out little head at the time). He was about to make an appointment for me to go back next week when I asked him about a bump I had found on her head a few weeks back, I was worried about it (as you do) because it hadn't gone down, my worst hear was that I had bumped her on something and as I suggested this to him he eased my fears with a "Nah". He gently laid hands on her head and then after a couple of minutes (and a couple of cries from Olivia - where is my toy!). He handed her back. "I was going to make an appointment for next week" he said, "instead I want you to ring me and tell me how she goes, I actually think there is nothing more wrong with your little girl, she'll be fine". At which point I burst into tears again and with a "see ya" he pushed me out the door. Later on as I sat in the womans restrooms in town, I had a feel of Olivia's head, her little lump was almost gone (WOW), she scoffed back a bottle and spent 5 minutes in hysterical giggles at the lady who runs the restrooms(He must have swapped babies). Now after gobbling down part of another bottle she's in bed asleep. I'm looking forward to seeing her results, she seems changed for the better in small part already.

wow sounds great. I am a firm beleiver that every child should be seen by an osteo after they are born. In saying that we had numerous visits for Jayde's reflux and although she was improved for the 2 days or so after a visit we couldnt afford to keep going every week so stopped after about 6 visits.

that's so good, i took mikey to the osteopath when he was about 6 months old coz he wasn't sleeping, like he was only going to sleep at about 2am every night after being rocked for hours and he was really grouchy, basically not a very happy baby. i took him to the osteopath 3 times and he was a completely different baby!
i'm so glad you were able to hear about it! i think every baby should have a check over just to be sure. i tell everyone now.
i hope the change in olivia is permanent.

I take ella to a baby chiropractor and its magnificent she went when she was 3 days old and coz of her dramatically fast delivery her neck was out. Going to chiro has helped Ellas reflux drastically!

I think every baby should be checked out be it from an osteo or a chiropractor

i got told that in england, every baby born in hospital gets checked over by an osteopath before being discharged.
i think its a great idea.
