Topic: Itti Wipes vs. muslin wipes Posted: 16 February 2011 at 5:48pm |
Just wondering if anyone uses itti wipes as their cloth wipe system?
I made double layered muslin wipes but they just don't pick up the poo well enough so am looking for other solutions.
Also, some of the muslin I have doesn't absorb like the others, I have to scrunch in the water as it runs off instead of absorbing in. Is this just the type of muslin or something I did to it?

I don't use itti wipes but made my own out of cotton velour and microfleece, one layer of each. DD only wears night nappies now but they did wipe up poo really well. I think the itti wipes are two layers of velour (not sure if they use cotton or bamboo) but I'm too cheap to use twice the velour, it's about $15 a metre from Greenbeans (can prob get it from somewhere else but I haven't tried). I didn't find muslin ones as good for poo either.

I haven't used the Itti wipes, but I use home-made cotton toweling wipes and find they get the poo just fine! I have muslin wipes too, but use them more for minor spills rather than poo (bit too thin for that kind of carry on IMO )

Would a cotton towelling wipe be like a towel ripped up and overlocked? I'm not so good with different materials.
I keep trying cloth wipes but going back to huggies because they wipe up messes easier. Need to make it easier to stick with cloth. The cost of huggies wipes is enough to make anyone rethink it really.

I use really cheap baby face cloths. Got them off trademe over 2 years ago, still going strong. Cost about 50c each
Over here they have them at Kmart in packs of 12 I think.

I use itti wipes, got about 16 or so of them and I love them. Best wipe I've ever used. Have tried cheapy facecloth things, muslin and some other cotton/microfleece wipes and NO COMPARISON.
They are a bit dearer I suppose but I would/will buy them again. Have been doing full time cloth wipes from 3 months on and think the wipes will last until DD is out of cloth nappies but not necessarily a second child.
Which is quite acceptable in my eyes as they get washed daily.

Hmmmm, possibly. The toweling I got was reasonably priced at a fabric shop, cut it up into about 20x20cm squares and overlocked the edges... but it is a little lighter-weight than a towel. Maybe more like some of those cheapie towels, but they seem to be so chocker with that 'dressing' that they never seem to be as absorbant so I'd probably just stick with going to a fabric shop and getting a length of toweling that way.
Hope that makes sense.

You could try stripping the ones that the water is running off. There are directions on the ittibitti facebook discussions page for how to strip. That might fix them.
I've made bibs by cutting up an old towel. Cos it's old, it was plenty absorbent, so I guess the same would be true if you used it for wipes.
I have a couple of itti wipes but I use them for facecloths - they are pretty excellent for that so I'd say they'd be great on a little bottom too

We use the itti wipes and ones from ecobubs. Love them. We don't use any other types of wipes, they're washed every day and they come up great. I'm not clever at sewing like lots of the other mums so I haven't tried making anything myself.

I use Itti wipes too, I love them! They are big, very soft, and excellent at wiping up poo messes! Worth the investment, in my opinion, and I think are way cheaper in the long run - last look at the sposie wipes in the baby section of the supermarket made me glad I didn't have to buy them!

Thanks for your replies,
I think I'll get a pack and see how they compare. I have 1 but it's used as a facecloth and didn't want to test it as a bum wiper. It's almost too pretty!

The best wipes I've used are the baby blush ones (they sound very similar to the ones rachelsea made up), velour on one side and sherpa on the other - the sherpa is very soft but nice and grippy to get poo off, and the minky is just lovely to finish up with (not terribly grippy tho I find)! I thought they were a reasonable price too.

I never found disposable wipes very good for poo, they always left a discoloured look on the skin and had to use several to get sticky bits off (didn't use them on my girl, but the girl I looked after last year coz that's what her parents wanted me to use - they used disposable nappies too though, couldn't convert them unfortunately )
Good luck with finding some that work perfectly for you!

lol We are really cheapo, we use an old set of sheets ripped into squares with and old towel also ripped up. No overlocking or anything lol. Oh and interspersed are those cheapo cloths you can get from supermarkets in pack of 6, the coloured ones.
I wouldn't mind getting a set of the itti wipes for big cuteness factor... lol

Itti wipes are fab but the best ones I've got are Thirsties.
They're so soft and like velcro for pulling off poop.

We have a HEAP of the cheapest facecloths I could find pretty much. And a heap from Mum that she had that she used to wipe our bums with They work great and I've never had a problem with poo getting stuck in them. Cos they are normal facecloths (not baby ones) they are generally a bit bigger so I can do pretty much any poo with 1 cloth. It has to be pretty bad to need 2
We found it to be the cheapest and easiest way to do it.

my mum made me a pile of edged double & single layer muslins, and we also have a bunch of Cheeky Wipes. They're good for different things, and deal with everything we've had so far fine - but she's only 5 MO so we have the worst to come I hear ;-)
We've never used disposable wipes so I'm not sure how they compare... we just use wipes and water.
Maybe we should add 'who's never used disposable wipes' to the 'who's never used disposable nappies' list!

We use itti wipes for bum and face- the ones we use for her face after eating get much more of a workout than the ones used for her bum. They are great, absorbant and easy to clean.
