Topic: Blood tests Posted: 15 March 2011 at 10:09pm |
Hi,
Help please - I have got to do a blood test (FSH). I'm suppose to get one FSH done on day four of my cycle and another on day 21.
The doctor's nurse phoned while I was at work so I couldn't really ask questions. Day four of my cycle would mean while I was having a period? and then again another one on day 21.
I'm assuming that those days would be worked out on a normal 28 day cycle? What happens if I have then done but my cycle is longer - I seem to be irregular ranging from 28 to on average 35 days.
Thanks
Just thought I should mention we already have one child that was conceived naturally.

cycle day 4 would be when you ahve your period...
and if they say CD21, i would go in on day 21.
my gyno had me do lots of those types of tests and even though my cycles were irregular I still had to go on day 21 as it gives them a guide to compare to the typical 'normal' range for CD21 of an "average" cycle.

My day 21 tests through FA they did say Day 21 or 7 days before AF is due. I had been charting so I had some idea of when I was half way through my TWW.
As it turns out I OV'd later than the charts said by 2 days that month, however when I told them they weren't too concerned, that I was 2 days out
I would probably try and give them a call back during a lunch hour and just check.

I had my Day 21 tests done - my doctor said that they really should be called 7DPO tests as they are trying to find out what your levels are at the highest point (which is apparently usually 7 days after OV). Doctor even wrote 7DPO on my test form... so I charted, found out exactly when I OV'd and did BT 7 days later - which was around CD28 for me....

I'm the same as KM, they call it Day 21 but I have the BT at 7 days past ovulation (which would be day 21 if you have a regular 28 day cycle, ovulating at day 14). I temp to work out ovulation though, if you don't temp you probably want to work out your average cycle length and count 7 days back from there.

I have long cycles too, and when I was with my old doc I got sent for CD21 BT's, but was sure I hadn't ovulated until then. Sure enough the BT came back with very low levels, so I insisted they send me for another one a week later, and what do you know, the results were all good!
Suggest you ring them back and let them know your concerns.

Sorry a thread high-jack...I am also up for blood tests...my partner (male) has been told that he will need to go to the doc and get 'tests' done that will be usef by the fert. specialist.
Can anyone enlighten us as to what these tests for him will involve? I am guessing a jar and a magazine ??
Thanks...

Hey Sag - my DP had to do a 'sample' however these days you can get the container do it at home and just have to have it at the lab within an hour of taking the sample.
He also had some blood tests done for HIV etc. We got the paperwork for the tests from the Fertility specialist and just needed them done before our appointment (I also had to have a smear, bloods on day 2 and day 21) but by getting the forms from then it saved us paying for a dr's appointment for him!
Good luck

Hi Sag76, we went thru the specialist in Greenlane and DH just needed to do a blood test, (I think it was to rule out any genetic abnormalities-but the doctor didnt really explain!)
Good luck Hannibal :)

he he Sag you are so right! Although he will have to 'donate' some blood too.
Hannibal your day 21 is your day 21 regardless of length of cycle. I was in your boat and all over the show when we first went to FA. One thing I was told to when we first started out is the Day 1 is the first day you wake up bleeding so from then on that's what I use as Day 1.
