Topic: Questions about itti bittis and Pop-ins Posted: 17 March 2011 at 4:34pm |
Okay, I feel a bit stupid asking this but I figured someone here will be able to sort me out.
I have been using cloth nappies during the day, and disposables at night, and I wanted to test out a few good night nappies.
I bought one Pop-in (with night time booster, or whatever it is), and one itti bitti boo (with two extra mini bamboo boosters).
My question is: can I put these in the dryer? I ask because I washed the bitti boo and it's taking aaaages to dry. I know not to put the Pop-in cover in the dryer, but I'm not sure about all the other bits and pieces. I've only got cotton prefolds and pocket nappies with microfibre inners, so all of it (except the covers) goes in the dryer at the moment.
They say "can be tumble dried on low heat", but lots of things say that and turn out okay when dried on high heat. I don't want to chance it though; these nappies were expensive! Also, my dryer does not have a low heat setting (only one heat: HOT).
Can someone help a girl out?

The better option would be to pop them into the hot water cylinder cupboard to finish off drying.
Using dryers on high heat can reduce the life span of nappies (it can be fairly rough with natural fibres like bamboo) which is why using a low setting is recommended if you have to use a dryer.

Okay, cool! That's good to know. I wasn't sure about bamboo!

If its a once off its okay, but yeah try and do it on a low heat, or if its nearly dry a higher setting is alright. good luck

I dry mine in the dryer on hot if the weather isn't co-operating. It's not every time, and I figure it might reduce their lifespan a little bit, but they are still going strong - she's been in her current boos for about 6 months now - and it makes life a whole lot easier for me. And there is value in that too, right?

If you have a Pop-In Dream Dri, then the inserts dry very quickly air-dried anyway. Hot water cylinder cupboard is great, if you have one, or if you can hang them outside or on an A-Frame. The Bitti Boo does take longer being bamboo, not sure if I'd risk chucking it in the dryer all the time though.

Thanks for all the advice!
I have to say, the Pop-in was amazing. It was on for 12 hours overnight with no leaks! It was pretty stinky with wee by the morning though.
And the bitti boo ended up being a really close fit. It's about to be too small and we haven't used it yet (I prewashed them both a million times).

Yay on the pop-in, they are fabulous! Bummer about the Boo. I found that DD started to slim down around 8 months, she is actually smaller now than she was! Your girl might do the same once she starts moving lots

Hehe I agree on the Pop in being amazing. And quite smelly the next morning but hey it does the job I have no complaints!
If its wet all the inserts quite often get stuffed through the dryer on who knows what setting (theres quite a few I have no idea which is low) it doesn't actually say high or low.
If you have enough to go on rotation, on wet days we also do the air rack thingy (in front of the closed fire) for the day and dryer to finish off. Saves on electricity.

Do you have a link for the pop in? Am trying to find a good nappy for nights to replace disposables too, ideally one that feels ok for her when wet.

You can get them at chic-cheeks
ETA: I use a microfleece liner to keep DS feeling dry.

spacette - we use Jan @ Yoyo nappies bamboo night nappy - it's made like a pocket so you can stuff it if necessary, needs a cover though. With a liner to keep it feeling dry next to her. We have a microfibre & a bamboo trifold in it at the moment and it works for her 11-12 hours.
