Thanks SophieD
The Theatre Staff were just amazing my OB was waiting in the hall to walk me in, everyone was so kind esp 1 particular nurse & the dude that does the spinal etc . I was like YAH thanks for being here everyone and being part of bringing our son into the world, its so exciting to be here I called out to them all! They couldnt believe how calm we both were.

Maybe cos we were the only EL CS that day, it was a great way to start their days work they were all smiling and so nice, excited for us etc it must be nice being part of seeing new life brought into the world. heard nurses say they were doing a D&C next.

Salz got in here too late to wish you luck but hope everything went well and looking forward to hearing your 'story'.

Girls Rock, thanks for the fantastic update, so nice to hear how well it all went. Will know in a couple of weeks my date for CS and get my pre-meds, check the hospital out (Waikato) and the birthing unit, Waterford. Hopefully the one and only time to see the OB before baby comes, living 2.5hrs away from hospital thats the way they do things here if no complications. So hearing your story puts another good spin on my decision. Have been adamant from beginning of PG that it would be elective but it really is a different feeling building up to it than last time with a Em CS and blissfully unaware.

Hi guys have had time to post my story!!!
Well turned up to hospital on monday 31st of October, went in for c section at 1015hrs. The theatre staff were lovely and joking although I did know them lol. I had an obstetrtian registra cause the consultant was away but she was lovely, she said she could tell who did my last c section cause he is notorius for short low c sections. Unfortunetly baby was on the big side and because I have a short torso he was still stuck up under my ribs too. She had real difficulty getting him out. The anaethetist even had to lean over me and push from above down on my tummy! The surgeon has to cut the uterus further but because of the size of the baby I ended up tearing and had a small heamorrage, so they had to call the on call consultant in to help her out. Mean while my 8lb 6oz baby boy Ari was born however he had trouble breathing so was transferred to the special care baby unit and put on a breathing machine for a few hours but improved immediatly with that. My DH went with the baby and I was still on the table for a while as they found the bleeder and stitched me up. Although things didnt go to plan with myself and Ari I could not fault our care and I had total trust in mine and Ari's team of doctors that I knew everything was going to be ok. Which it was, we were both healthy happy and home two days later. I am a bit more sore this time round but is because of my tear and the extra pulling.

Wonderful story ! everyones attitude incl yourself certainly helps the situation regardless of complications, hoping for another small bubz this time round

Love the name Ari too, have friend here who named her little boy Ari and he's lovely, but pretty sure its not a common name tho.

Hi there
I had a c section with dd who is now 5 because she was breach. I am quite keen on another one (24 weeks now)
But medically I don't think I NEED one, so don't think my mw will support one...and if it's elective isn't it really expensive?

I have southern cross (the basic plan) so I don't know if that would be able to be used?

Anyone done an elective in my position or used southern cross?

I know that a lot of people do vbacs but I am pretty scared of going into labour again, really didn't enjoy it last time...

Any advice?

No need for insurance butterflymum, if you want a elective CS, go for it, if your MW doesn't support it then find another one, thats her job! and your choice. I had em CS as have a lot of the women in this post and have chosen to have an elective this time, without a medical reason. Will be getting one in approx 2wks. My MW was informed from the beginning and I have never wavered in my decision, living 2.5hr away from hospital put a spin on my decision as well, and MW is supportive because its what I want.

Hope this has helped.

So there we are, will just wait and see I guess. Really great to know I have the option though, takes a huge weight off my shoulder...

I bet it does. Still have to query why your MW isn't talking to you about it. The OB visit I went to, actually had 2 cos changed my mind about the hospital, so 2nd one was yesterday, both just really chat to you cos its hospital policy on CS vs Vag and give you a date. But I would suggest to do your own research if you are unsure before you see anyone so you know what questions to ask and you know your own mind. The ladies who have been unsure on this site have found it a lot harder as the time has come for decision making.

Hi Everyone,

I'm tossing up weather or not I should go to the doctor and wanted to know other woman's experiences that are in my situation.

I had my baby girl 5 1/2 month ago by emergency c-section. Now my sex drive is very low compared to before and during pregnancy, which I realise is normal. When we do want to have sex though, it's incredibly painful! I can't stand it for more then a few minutes and (I'm trying to stop short of too much information I promise) I'm not even getting the half of it, if you know what I mean...

This seems like a ridiculous issue to turn to my doctor for but persevering isn't working. My partner of course is understanding and supportive but we are both missing our old sex life!

Any ideas?

I do remember reading when I had my Em CS that sometimes scarring etc is worse with a CS than with a vag birth, not sure how that works. But you shouldn't be feeling that much pain now, so I think its the perfect issue to talk to your Dr about, don't feel ridiculous, thats what they are there for, if you don't get any joy get another! Definately go see your GP or OB/GYNO directly if you arnt comfortable with your GP. Maybe even talking to a lady nurse at family planning may help, sorry to hear you are uncomfortable!

BabyRixon - as well as all the external scar, you would have had lots of internal stitches as well. This can make things different than before.

You should def go see your doctor.

Also, I don't know how you are feeding your baby, but if you are breastfeeding, this can cause a massive decrease in estrogen, which makes the vagina very dry and sensitive which can cause a lot of pain. This is really easily treated with an estrogen cream.

Hi there

Just wanted share my experience in case it helps someone as I found this thread helpful to me before having my baby.

I had always been scared of the idea of having VB and just thought I would have a c-section. Not sure why I was so phobic about VB but it just seemed like everyone I knew had had some kind of drama during delivery and at least half of them had ended up having emergency c-sections anyway.

When I actually got pregnant I started researching and was like: hang on a minute its not perhaps as easy as all that! I mean I really got to thinking about how I was going to be operated on and basically cut open.

So then I drove my partner crazy researching the pros and cons for nine months. I mean I had basically decided to have a c-section failing finding something in the research to convince me otherwise but I couldn't stop reading about it. I read so many scientific journal articles by doctors and also more than healthy amount of discussion threads on websites like this one!

One thing that I did find annoying was the number of people who really seem to think that it is a failing if you do not have a VB. To them its like a rite of passage that you need to suffer or something to have your baby. I never felt like I needed to experience a VB to experience "birth". Also I think its a bit rich that people talk about having "natural birth" because I don't know anyone who really has that!!

I think top priority has to be your health and state of mind and health of your baby and if you decide you prefer c-section to VB then that is your choice.

In the end I found nothing to dissuade me. I had the c-section and everything went to plan. The operation was fine - in the theatre the atmosphere was friendly and happy and I felt very confident with my doctor and the staff at the hospital- it happened so quickly and I only had an instant of nervousness then I was holding my baby. Recovery was very fast. I am fit person who does a lot of sport so that probably helped. I was up walking around the day of the operation and driving within 2 weeks.

If anyone has any questions about having elective c-section by maternal request then I will try to answer them. Everyone makes their own decisions about birth but from my point of view having a c-section worked really well for me and my baby.

I'm just dead curious now - what do you mean? I mean, people do have births where you push a baby out the holey in the bottom, is that not natural?

Not that I disagree with your post, I figure a baby is a baby however it comes out, and they're all pretty wonderful I'm just dead curious as to what you meant by that!
