Ok, so I am at home sick (yet again) and have watched a few times now "My super sweet 16" on MTV. Basically, it is a reality show, following VERY spolit teens and their sweet 16 parties. The party usually costs in the 100's of 1000's (one party a few weeks back had an $8000 cake) in usually climaxes in the teen of the day being given a car for their birthday, usually a brand new BMW or Mercedes convertable, usually worth over $100,000. One boy today had a 15th birthday instead that cost over $300,000, and got a mercedes valued at over $100,000
The girls are the worst, spoilt little drama queens. Quite funny, but a little sickening in a way... *rant*
So, would this be the norm? Do american parents really go overboard for a 16th birthday? I realise that the amount of money spent on the ones in the show wouldn't be the norm, but is 16 a really big deal over there? Gosh, imagine the weddings......
The Honest Un PC Parent of 2, usually stuck in the naughty corner! :P

I have seen a few of the shows and I think what spoilt little brats. Its their way and no other way with their parties. My 16th I went out for dinner with a few friends.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

ha, i didn't even have a 16th.

i have seen that show too when it was on at nights on C4.. is it still on at that time? It is amazing what those kids do and expect.. i remember seeing one where the girl went on a shopping tip to Paris to get something to wear.. and found nothing she liked there.. so went home and i think she got it made.

some people have nothing better to spend money on.
