Topic: Dilemma ! Posted: 01 October 2006 at 1:08pm |
I have a dilemma. I know lots of ladies having babies (well, a few anyway), and now finally have stuff that Erin has grown out of, which I could pass on in the great "baby chain". However, we still haven't been totally put off having another baby, we just don't know when that will be. So the dilemma is, do I give away or sell the stuff she is growing out of and worry about clothes for #2 whenever it is they come along, or keep them just in case?
TIA !!

do both - keep some you really like and pass on some. the people you pass them on to may one day pass stuck to you in return...

I've got a fair few clothes that Olivia has grown out of too, as well as clothes that she never has (or will) wear that was 2nd hand. I'm going to sell the stuff that doesn't mean anything or was hardly if not worn at all and keep all the rest.

I got rid of everything coz I was never ever ever having another baby. Hmmmmm Gave most of it away to friends and sold a few things.
But I have found that some of the stuff I gave to friends has come back to me again this time round, and that having Maya means I have a lot more friends with young kids so I have ended up with 2 vacuum bags full of next size up stuff for the twins, not to mention all the newborn stuff. So I haven't had to buy much.
I did keep some of the special stuff that was Maya's like her first gown etc. but I won't use them for the twins, they are in Maya's treasure box.

I have kept all of my stuff from with Andrew. I always knew I would have another one. Some of the really good stuff my friend just borrowed with her boy and then gave them back to me afterwards. If you have really good stuff (stuff from overseas and PP) borrow them to other people and then you can always get them back when their child grows out of them.

Oh, and also you could consider that next time round you might have a boy so pink stuff might not be any use and that you might have a summer baby so stuff might be the wrong season etc.

I have kept basically everything as we plan to have one more, and we have the storage space. My SIL will be borrowing - basically everything! I plan to eventually keep all the really cute stuff and get rid of the basic things. Funnily enough I have some really cute girlie stuff that my mum kept after having me. My parents were always planning on having another child, but mum got cancer and then couldn't.

My Mum kept a knitted dress and cardy that she made for me when I was a baby, then my sister wore it, then Maya wore it, and now the twins will have to share it. She kept a couple of special things she knitted for the boys too.
In Maya's treasure box are some booties that my 93 year old great aunty knitted her, I hope that Maya's kids will wear them one day, and my great aunty has given me a heap more for the twins.

My mum still has the gown I came home in, in 1981.

LOL mine made a christening gown for me and it's been thru my brothers and sister and Maya as well, but she's gutted that she now has to make a second one so that the twins have one each

I kept most of Kobes stuff and wish i hadnt. We now have about 8 boxes of clothes and i went through it all when we found out about Addison and picked out maybe 10 things i wanted to use for her and basically we have brought or been given soooo many clothes for her anyway plus of course we are now needing pink not blue. I have kept a few wee things of his that he wore all the time jsut for sentimental reasons but im slowly selling or giving away the rest of the stuff.

well as you know, hubby wants #2 (I'm still not convinced) but has asked me to put away all of the NB size stuff and my maternity wear instead of selling it all on Trade Me (I guess he also knows that I'll just spend even more on Trade Me for her 0-3mth stuff )

I'm keeping all of Ashlee's stuff. Purely for the fact that I'm a hoarder ... and considering the next child too. If that one turns out to be a girl, then bonus! Don't have to buy much. But if it's a boy, then I'll put all the girly stuff on trademe. I don't like the idea of selling it all now, only having to buy it all again at a later date (if we have another girl that is!)

We have done the same as lots of the others- we kept lots of things like woollen singlets etc that would cost a bit to replace and are unisex and then some of her really nice outfits that were in good condition but sold or gave away pretty much everything else.

Which will be returned to you if you have another girlie one! (Provided I'm not too embarrassed to return items of clothing that Han has destroyed )

And Jax... keep it for a while... decide later.
I kept all my stuff, but funnily enough, since Han has hit toddler I have given most of it away!

If you have room, I'd keep it all for a year (or more?) before deciding what to give away or sell.

Well get this...I kept all of Paiges really cool PP stuff. & years later and a divorce later ..new partner and move to Bay of plenty..I pulled it out of the roof...Was still all in perfect condition. I was so excited.....EXCEPT we had a boy!And in the end I got given soooooooo much stuff I hardly needed to buy anything really.
Keep the really good stuff.....and your favorite bits and give the rest away I reckon???
