    Posted: 30 July 2011 at 8:05am
In doing my research to decide between another Brio or a Radian XTSL for number two, I came across some discussion about the superlatch coming undone, both when touched by kids getting into the seat, but more scarily by itself. theres some youtube videos, but nothing official from sunshine kids.

Since I know theres a lot of you out there who use them, has anyone had there superlatch mounting come undone?

Also I've found posts showing how to make them a little more upright for toddlers, which would be great, then DH could drive the car if we get one! I can't find anything saying how this effects its safety (since it was designed and tested at 45 degrees. What angles do you have them mounted for kids 2 or older?

I'm going to email sunshine kids with both concerns so I'll post if I hear back from them.

There was a facebook page that had a lot of info about the superlatch thing. I don't have time to search for it now but maybe see if a search on facebook turns anything up

I don't use the superlatch, just use the seatbelt here and never had a problem. There is a FB group as kebakat says and there has been feedback from Sunshine Kids about it. Apparently it's only some of the superlatch connectors that can come loose.

You can still use a seatbelt if you dont want to use the superlatch. I can get my Radian so tight that the seat doesnt move. My car is too old to have superlatch anyway, and if you had a problem then they would send replacement parts ASAP as the NZ branch is really helpful and onto it.

As long as the seat is belted/latched in correctly you can have it at whatever angle you like. I can get mine to about a 55deg angle and have it resting on the front seat for support- it is not pushed up in any way as that is unsafe. They recommend that you do not put any form of towel/padding under the seat to boost it up as in a crash it can slide out and make the force to the seat greater.

Yeah I was reading up the facebook page last night. Seems its inconclusive if its a real fault, and if the replacement parts fixes it.

I've had my Radian over a year now and have never ever had any problems with the latch
