My wee boy (8 weeks old) has been on gav for almost 2 weeks now and he hasn't done a poo for almost 4 days! He use to do one after almost every feed. He has also been on losec for a week.

Does anyone come across the same issue and is there anything I can help to relief him? How soon will the bowel movement be normal again?

Thanks!

Hi
My youngest daughter used to be a several times a day kid. Then she went on gaviscon and losec. Now she goes days without bowel movements. We've got lactulose from the doctor to help, but even that doesn't seem to work that well. Last time it took 3 doses for her to go. The longest shes ever gone between poos is 6 days. The doctor said the losec can cause constipation too.

Gaviscon ius very constipating- it does settle downbut can be very severe while their system gets used to it. Monitor baby very closely and see your GP again soon if baby doesnt poo soon.

My paed said don't bother with the gaviscon because mostly all it does is constipate them, I did see it help somewhat when I used it but the constipation was so awful I stopped. In the end losec was the more effective thing. It's really common for bubs to get constipated on gaviscon. I used colloxyl drops which you can get from the chemist to help

Our wee one is BF and his #2 was always regular up until we started the gaviscon.

We rang Plunket and the nurse taught us a few tricks to help his bowel movement and IT WORKED! There was quite a bit of hard stuff there... :( We have stopped the gaviscon for almost 2 days now and his bowel movement seem to be almost back to normal :)
