Ok I'm not sure it this is anything to worry about or not but my left breast is slightly tender on the right hand side of it. It doesn't feel harder than the other, can't feel any lumps or bumps, I don't feel like I have a temperature or anything so I'm not really leaning towards mastitis but I'm really not sure!

I've been massaging it regulary since last night and putting heat packs on it this morning as well.

I'm just not sure if I should be running off to the doctor or not. Thoughts?

I'd say leave it unless you get a red patch or start feeling sick/fluey/get a temp. It could be just a tender bit. But if you do get a red patch or start feeling icky my advice is to go to the doc or call your m/w quick smart coz mastitis can develop really quickly and be really nasty.

Massaging it in the shower with the warm water running on it might help.

Yeah i've been doing that too....it goes a bit red with the heat on it but that fades so i assume thats nothing to worry about.

Hey Paws. Your doc is your LMC and all of this should still be covered in your post natal care so therefore free to check anyway. You could also get the outpatient midwife that comes a visiting to check you out. (Free being therefore more attractive for checking out, even if there isn't anything there, it's not going to cost you anything).
You should also check to see if it is an area that is getting pressure from your bra - I've had sore patches where the boob has been pushing against the bra. Going bra free for a day can sometimes help as well. Amen for the hot water in the shower too - it helps LOADS.

Mine was never diagnosed because I never went to the doctor about it, but I'm sure I got an infection, and my boob was sore/tender before the red patch appeared. I didn't get any flu like symptoms so I guess I'll never know if it was mastitis or what.

Yeah it's not in an area that the bra is digging into...the midwife is coming tomorrow so I'll get her to check it out. It hasn't got any worse so far and still no sign of a red patch...

I must admit I didn't realise that a visit to Monique about this would be free.

i had something similiar a few weeks back. it started off in one breast and it was REALLY sore, i couldnt lye down comfortably (which made me have no sleep...) and it spread into the other one (just not as bad) i was couch bound the following day with a fever and headache and general aches and pains.... felt a bit better the next day but it took a while for my breasts to stop aching, a good 3-4 days i think. i felt like i was being booted in them OWCH! i dont know if i had an infection or not i never went to doc.

im pleased that its cleared up for you paws
