Topic: Ergo vs Manduca Posted: 26 September 2011 at 9:37pm |
I thought I had my heart set on a Manduca.... but when I was in a shop today the lady suggested the Ergo - she wasn't 100% sure on the benefits of one over the other.... So good ol me came home and you tubed 'ergo' to see what they were about....
The main difference I can see is that the ergo has an extra insert (and looks rather bulky) that you use for a newborn - something I see as being rather hot over the summer (bubs due Nov).
My lovely DH has said to get which ever one I want, and with no local slingbabies to contact I was wondering if anyone had tried both and had an opinion?

I love the look of the manduca & would have loved one. I got an ergo though, because of the fit for me around the waist.
One benefit I find with the ergo is that it has the pocket so I could do errands without taking my whole big bag. I could fit keys, wallet, wipes and nappy. The pocket is not as handy now DD's bigger and I wear her on my back!
Have a search on here through old threads - there are lots of them and they all helped me decide what to get.
I think you'd be happy with which ever you went with.

I chose an ergo over the manduca..
Reasons being:
- price
- the pocket on the front of the ergo. It's really handy and I still use it. Saves me taking my bag in with me when I can just throw my keys and credit card in it.
- couldn't see any great benefit to the manduca. everyone talks about it having cross over straps and that being more comfortable but you can do that with the ergo too

We have a manduca and love it, although to be fair I've not tried an Ergo. The best thing about a manduca if you will be using from nb is that it's nb insert is attached.
The ergo one is seperate. You can also buy a pouch to go on the waist of the manduca which fits wallet, key, phone, nappies etc.

Thanks for the heads up on the puch for the Manduca - after plenty of reading & YouTube video watching I think I'll be sticking to the Manduca
I like that the newborn insert is built in (so no need to loose it like I would )and the back is extendable - and I dont like the idea of a NB being on an angle - seemed like it could be quite easy put together wrong (Or maybe that is just me )
Plus Manduca have some rather pretty Ltd editions out at the mo

I had the same question when I was looking at SSC.
In the end I chose a Manduca, for the following reasons.
-Manduca is made from organic fabrics (especially important to me when they all seem to suck the straps)
- Extendable back panel, which makes it a lot longer in the body than an Ergo (41cm vs 33cm)
- Pretty colours
- Built in newborn insert, which is reportedly more comfortable for both baby and wearer
- Better resale value
- Higher weight limit (18kg vs 20kg)
- Lighter
- Padded straps, buckles never touch you
- German made

Hi Ladies,
Just a question, I've noticed that some of the manduca's are branded as "new style". Does anyone know what the difference is? (Ie. is it just new colours or have they altered the shape of the manduca?)
TIA

the differences are very minor -
The Manduca New Style Carriers is a new line of Manducas created to replace the original Basic Edition Manducas.
The Manduca New Style spots a wider range of 7 colors with improved color coordination and a hip belt that can better cater to smaller frame & slimmer babywearer with the minimum hip size reduce from 72cm to 68.5cm.
An extra tuck on the panel replaces the original pocket design on the main panel of the carrier.
Overall, the changes are more aesthetic then functional.

Depends - have you had much stuff loaned/given to you?? I justified the cost because we've had so much loaned/given that we really have gotten off lightly..... IMO
the 2 things I've splashed out on, Nappy bag & the manduca... lots of other stuff i've got good stuff but pretty much mainly off trademe which has saved us heaps
