Do your kids like veggies? If so what are their faves and how do you encourage them to enjoy them?

My kids (almost 3, and 4yrs) are not fans. They are willing to try them all of the time but not keen to have veg on their plate unless they don't know it is there. At the moment I 'hide' veg in their meals.

One of my goals this year is to encourage their interest in eating veg but I am adamant I won't be forcing them to eat them. I was forced as a kid and spent half of my life hating veg.

DD used to eat mainly vegetarian so it wasn't an issue its what she has grown used to. She is going through a bit of a stage where she won't eat them but they go in her meals like mince and nachos and that.

Otherwise she has a pita with salad which she will eat the whole thing. Or she likes cauliflower and broccolli and will happily eat them or capsicum sticks. Oh and corn if we ever have it she is straight in there.

Do you have a vege garden? Growing their own veges is an awesome way to get them to try a whole range of things because 'they' grew them themselves.

Yes we do, we have herbs, peas, broccoli, lettuce and tomatoes. Nothing is quite ready yet. We have always had vege gardens though and they are always keen to try but not sit and eat as part of their meals. I think I just need to make a firm point with them that they can choose what to eat and how we make it... get them more involved. I would be happy if they have one vege on their plate per meal by choice and I can hide whatever else in there.

It will be interesting to see how far I might be able to extend their taste buds!!

This is one thing I've never had an issue with.. maybe that's cause I'm vegetarian so its either eat your veges or starve lol.

Gabrielle likes capsicum, cucumber and carrots (and occasionally peas) and not much else We grow veges too but so far it hasn't made much difference. She will occasionally lick other veges or put them in her mouth and then spit them out but apart from that I haven't had much joy. I just serve the veges she will eat every single night and I put one or two of the ones she doesn't like on there every night too. I don't make her eat them but I put them on her plate and I eat them so she sees that I like them. I read somewhere you have to serve new things up 20 plus times before they will eat them so I am working on that angle Oddly enough she was fine with almost all veges till she was about 20 months old - after that she got very very fussy.

I dont have this problem. My girl only eats veges at dinner. Oh and pasta And she will eat any type of vege no problems.

Ive heard of pureeing it and putting into food. So stuff chicken breast, mac cheese, pasta, casserole etc. I actually add vege to heaps of meals and Dd just eats it but i then again she does like it so not sure if kids who dnt like vege would pick up on it

Mine love (still) frozen mixed veges, that would be their favourite.

And things like peas in a pod they love as well as corn on the cob add a novelty to dinner.

I had a chat with miss 4 yesterday about vegies and she ended up eating all of her brocolli with dinner last night and asked for more haha - tonight she now wants brocolli and carrots. Hopefully her new interest will rub off on to Mr almost 3!

Have you tried having some vege out for them to snack on before dinner or while you're preparing it? Sometimes I give my nearly 3yr old peas or corn first while I get the rest of the meal ready and as she's hungry she'll eat more of them that way than if they were given all at once with the rest of her dinner.
Getting them involved seems to be a great idea, I've noticed such a difference with mine trying new tastes and being enthusiastic about anything we grow, particularly radishes/lettuce/peas as since they're quick growing we can pick them all the time. Do you have a vege market in your area? That's something fun we do each weekend and DD loves helping choose things. Lots of vege mine doesn't eat but I try keep her involved so they're at least fun for her, I figure she'll come round at some point...perhaps!

My DD has always liked veges, but which veges she likes can change quite suddenly. At the moment she prefers her veges raw and will eat capsicum, cucumber, carrots. Oh, and frozen corn However she won't eat them cooked or if they have sauce on them.
She'll eat some cooked beans and peas and stirfried zuccini, but not always.
She's gone completely of broccoli which used to be her favorite for a year.

So maybe try giving the veges in different ways, to see if she prefers one way over the other.
Like nztui, I also often give her strips of veges to eat while I'm preparing dinner.
