Topic: Wellington cafés Posted: 09 May 2012 at 11:58am |
Hi ladies,
going to Wellington for the weekend and looking for recommendations for toddler-friendly cafés. I've heard the Southern Cross is good - anywhere else? Just want a decent play area so we can relax :-)

Southern Cross is great.
Are you only going to be in the CBD?
Mitre 10 Mega in Petone has a nice cafe with a fenced playground alongside.
There is also Benedicts Cafe in Maungaraki (Lower Hutt), has a large kids play area, horse ride, change facilities.
The Funky Monkey in Upper Hutt (indoor and outdoor play areas I believe)
And here is a link to some others

The Chocolate Frog in Palmers Gardenworld in Miramar is awesome. They have a cool playground on site with tables and the cafe takes orders from there by text so you don't have to wait at the counter to order with the kids :)

Thanks ladies! Thought there must have been something in the forums before, but for some reason the search didn't turn anything up.

We took our 22mo to Elements in lyall bay, toddler friendly, awesome food & service, changes tables in bathrooms etc, just not a lot for toddlers to do when they aren't eating (well, maybe annoy the people at the next table!) Maranui is good too

Maranui is lovely but I would avoid on the weekend unless you get there super early - the queue for a table is often down the stairs and out the door!!

I've found this really helpful!
We moved to Wellington this year and one weekend ventured out to the CBD - I was disgusted with the number of places we walked in to that didn't have highchairs! In the end we stopped at a French cafe that was lovely - but it was the last one I was going to try so thankfully it had the highchair. We stopped at 6 or 7 before that!
Last week we went to the chocolate fish cafe at Shelley Bay which was lovely - very busy - REALLY child friendly so worth the wait.
Definitely going to give Elements a try now - I'd not heard of it before.

UK2NZ Mummy. I'm in the hutt so not too familar with cafes in the big smoke since I stopped working but I have one of the phil & teds portable high chairs (there are tons of different brands) and find that great for when we eat out. We always have a high chair (although granted it doesn't go on all tables) and you also don't have to worry about the cleanliness of the cafe highchair.
Anyway off topic, but hope it helps.

The zoo cafe use to be good... but its since changed owners (since we last been) so not too sure what the food is like now but its got a play area and also an are where you can see i think it was the meerkats?!
The southern cross has been mentioned but i think its fantastic there. And they always seem more than happy to let me design my own breakfeast and add things that arent even on the menu =P
