last week I had a bit of a set too with some dumb head guy.it was a terrible windy day and Brooke had bit of runny nose and I had to get some $ out of money machine so since I parked right by the machine figured I would leave kids in there(I was only guna be gone for a min) and just as I walked away from car this older guy yelled at me "hey dont you bloody leave those kids in that car" as it happend my friend was walking towards car as it all happend and she was guna say hi to kids.so the guy said "oh I didnt realize someone was going to be with them" so I said well maybe you should shut up.felt like saying f**k up but managed to contain myself.has anyone else had that kinda thing happen?made me feel like a bad mum but I would never ever leave them in car while I went shopping or anything like that......

what a w*nker, i would be mad to but probably wouldnt have been able to hold my tongue. Ive done that before, also at the petrol station i dont take them out of the car, just lock it as long as i can see them and are only a few feet away. Dont worry about it, I guess the guy thought he was doing what was right and if i saw someone walk away from a car full of kids i would wonder myself although i would probably just wait to see what the situation is but hey you know you werent going to leave them so try not to let it worry you.

Today I left Ella in the car while I went to get some money out of the ATM a few metres away.. I've done it quite a bit before too! I also lock her in @ the service station (making sure I have my keys first )

Stupid man.. how rude swearing at you too.. yeah if he saw you going into a pub or casino or something it might be justified.. I probably would have yelled F*&* you at him too, I'm quick tempered sometimes!

I could understand if it were in Australia at the height of summer, as even a minute in a car in that heat is bad.. but we're in NZ, and it's not summer yet..

What a sh*t head!! On one hand it's nice to know that people will still speak out but on the other it pays to get your facts right before doing so! I also leave the kids in the car when paying for petrol and lock them in, I have also left them there when I have parked right beside an atm.

We are constantly telling peple off for leaving sleeping babies in their cars when they pick their kids up from kindy one lady did it for 15 mins and when confronted goes "but I left all the windows down. I will addthat we areup a very long frive and you can't see the cars on the street from inside. I will admit to dobbing people in at the shopping mall and confronting the odd person myself, BUT only after I have seen them walk of and go into the mall. I usually wait by the car one woman was gone for 30 minutes and left a newborn and toddler in the car, so I went to mall management and they phoned the police.

There is a big difference between 2 minutes and having them in constant sight and going shopping etc shopping. Just ingonore his comment.

I was at the mall and we saw this kid asleep in the car- we waited by the car for 5 minutes and the Mum still didn't come back. We decided to go inside and if he was still there when we got out we were going to contact the mall/police. We were inside for 30 minutes and when we came out she was only just driving off. I couldn't beleive it! The car was parked in a spot where there was no way she could keep an eye on him/the car if she was inside.

But yeah that guy should have go this facts straight before mouthing off- I would have said the same thing as you!

I leave the twins asleep in the car when I pick Maya up from preschool but it is within sight, and the teachers know so they have her ready to go when I arrive so I just have to dash in and out.

I remember when Maya was born tho, the first time I went to the petrol station I made the attendant guy stand next to the car and watch Maya while I went in and paid. Talk about OPP!

lol Emma and if she cries, then what? hehe

I had a frustrating experience like this too. My little sister (Amanda, 6yrs) had the day off school to come stay with us over Sunday night/Monday and I had to go up town to do some banking. Amanda and Hannah loved holding hands with each other so I had them together and me holding Briona in her carry-car seat and we were all walking out of the bank to the carpark, and this older woman came past and said "what are you doing, taking that older child out of school to look after the younger ones!"

Grr I was so cross with her, fortunately I was so dumb-founded that all I could get out was "she's not mine!". The conclusions people jump to!!!

When I nannied in the states it was actually a state law that kids werent allowed to be left in the car...so every stop at a 7 eleven or anywhere meant i had to take a 1 year old and a three year old out with me...what a mega hassle but i was not doing jail time for that one!!!
I think it is ok if they are within sight and it is brief....i mean who needs the hassle of getting them out for that...but if you cant see them then take them with you....thats just the rule i live by....

in japan about three or four kids die each year locked in cars while their parents play pachinko (like the pokies, but more annoying)...but get this...they play for like SIX HOURS! The one that freaked me out was two years ago when some woman was playing and there was a massive earthquake (i remember the powere lines swaying), but the woman doesn't check on her kids asleep in the car, waits four hours and goes in to find them dead. ick ick ick. Not that I'm comparing that to you Roxy!!!! (I have been guilty of running in to the dairy and leaving the kids in the car -espeicaly if they are asleep - and I can see them)

The other day I walked thru town and happened to look into a car and here is this kid (must of been about 3 or 4) ASLEEP in the back seat of a car - not in a car seat - and the car all locked up not even a window open, and guess where it was parked outside of - WINZ... now don't get me wrong not everyone who goes into winz would be bad parents etc... but I thought maybe I should ring the police incase the kids suffercates or something. ONly made me think more becuase about a month ago a almost 3 year old died after his mum left him asleep in the car while she was visiting her mum, she even had car door open etc....
