Topic: UGHHHH at my cat Posted: 26 October 2006 at 10:04am |
Since i went into labour my lovely cat smudge started bringing things into the house, basically anything that moved got brought in and heres the selection:
Bird (dead)
Bird (Alive)
Worms (WTF?!)
Wetas (Cringe) Often find legs on the carpet
Skinks (i find these hidden everywhere its grotty!)
Mice (Always Alive)
She kindly robbed a nest and brought in a bird once at 2am when i was feeding Ella. What a meanie waking the birdie to kill it
Actually last night at 4.30am i was feeding ella and i heard a wierd noise coming from the kitchen and i yelled at Cory to go and deal with it and GUESS WHAT?!?! There was a frikken mouse running around the kitchen squeeling!!! EWWWWWWWWWWW GROSS GROSS GROSS!!! Cory made Smudge take it outside and we locked her out but its all getting to much now and disgusting!!!
*cringe*

Oh sweet, she is providing for your growing family!!
But definitely eeeeeew!
Do you have a collar on her? Maybe you could put a loud bell on it to help warn the unsuspecting creatures?

Our boy Pippin, what he is lacking in brain cells he more than makes up for in his awesome hunting skills.
His record 5 birds in 3 days is as yet not yet broken (to our knowledge anyway) and the fact that he caught and hung onto a minor bird while being chased around the neighbourhood for 2 solid hours is still legendary - more so given that he was double-belled at the time.
Sadly Pippin no longer proudly displays his handiwork on our front doorstep, I think something to do with the fact we kept taking the birds off him and sending the live ones to the local bird lady to be rescued and released. Hmmmmm.
(either that or he is STILL annoyed that I managed to win the tug of war over a live sparrow he had jammed in his mouth and when I wrenched his jaws of steel open it flew away.)
Maybe your cat will eventually get the same hint?
Now if we can just convince Paris that under the CD tower is not an appropriate place for mice....

Pippen's style would be similar to my boy cats (1 is sadly no longer with us), Moose's best achievement was to bring in a whole birds egg, made enough noise so the whole neighbour hood wondered what was going on and once sure we had seen it (we had no idea what to do with it at that point) he ate it
Pedro on the other hand is a dab hand (paw) at wetas, rats, mice, bush moths (these have a wing span of at least 10cm), and birds, the most impressive being the Rosella he caught, what baffled us is that they are normally tree dwellers.
We thankfully have had a good 6 months of catch free days and only lately has he started bringing in the odd half of a mouse (only the bottom ends!). Hopefully your cat eventually settles down as well and you get a break from it. It is very hard to stop them though as it is in their nature to hunt.

I pray that this never happens in this house, but in our old Mt Wellington place Maddy (the champion birder) used to have a nasty habit of bringing in wild rats that were.... well... inside out We've had the odd bird here, as well as a variety of bugs, a skink, and plenty of live mice. We just resigned ourselves to the fact that there isn't a whole lot you can do because they're trying to please you in their own way - although I got a hell of a fright the day we came home from the hospital with Erin, and was presented with a fresh mouse not five minutes after we walked in the door !
