Topic: Our wee pixie has arrived..... Posted: 28 October 2006 at 6:59pm |
Hello Everyone - Finally have some time to fill you in..... here goes..........
Well what a battle we had but we got there in the end - here goes:
Well it all started when I got show on Sunday morning - then I started getting period like cramps with light contractions through out the day and then again that night around 7pm then had more of a show. Rang my mid wife and couldnt get hold of her - but finally got hold of her in the evening to let her know what was going on. She then informed us to sit and wait to see what happens so then had a restless night but some sleep with 20 min contractions (light)
Monday morning 7am contractions started getting stronger and stronger and varying between 5 and 30 mins, rang midwife at lunch time and she said let us know when you want to go up to the hospital.
Then 7pm she rang to find out what was going on and told me to get some sleep as it would get worse through the night (sleep yeah right) and to call her in the morning if things didnt progress.
Tuesday morning 7am rang midwife and she told us to go to the hospital and she'd meet us there, 8.30am got the hospital and had a VE about 9am only to be told I was 2cm (after all that work) 10.30 had VE and sweep to get things cracking after two days of minimal sleep I decided to have some pethidine. 12.00 VE still only 3 or 4 cm dialated (being generous) and my waters had to be broken, no turning back now. Then decided to take the gas unbeknowns to me it wasnt working.
Well as things werent going to plan midwife decided to get a specialist in to see me and put a probe on to baby's head, to monitor baby's heart, which wasnt the most comfortable thing to be done. By this stage i was buggered and decided to get an epidural (god sent). At 3pm the head of Maternity at Christchurch Womens Hospital came in and gave me a VE and was happy with the progress. 5pm the anethnatis came in to top me up as it was wearing off, by this time I was fully dialated and was ready to push, again the head of Maternity came in and gave me a VE and Baby was suspectly posterior but was starting to push. About 30mins into pushing baby got stressed and heart beat went down to 90 bpm my mid wife rolled me over to my side and the heart beat came right - 1 hour later (still pushing) the same thing happened, so again I was rolled and bpm came right. At about 8pm no progress so head of Maternity guy came in to give us the bad news it was either vontuse and forceps or a c section, So Sam and I decided to go for the Vontuse and forceps so off we go to the theatre room after some more top up's and another 25mins of pushing and an apesiotamy (forgive my spelling) we had a wee girl.
