Hi

Just wondering if anyone else has had an issue with the Egg over-the-bump maternity jeans ripping along the stitching of the stretch fabric to the waistband.

I took mine back after a couple of months as they had so many holes in I was going to have to replace the whole band - for $150, that was starting to really p**s me off, especially as I was really careful every time I pulled them up, always pulling on a good handful of denim, not the stretchy fabric.

I don't usually buy expensive clothing and to be screwed over by a brand that everyone says is good (and is even NZ-owned!) after I splashed out on ONE item of nice maternity clothing was absolutely gutting.

I'm waiting for a replacement but am really worried that it is a problem with the style not a faulty pair. They keep saying they've never had these jeans back before with this problem, so I was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue. One person selling a similar but older style (also Egg) on Trademe mentioned holes in the waistband, so it may well not be just me or just this pair.

Is there anyone else out there??? If you took them back, got them replaced, what happened next time?

Oh also, for anyone buying maternity jeans in the first trimester for a first pregnancy - I would suggest buying a size up if in doubt...my jeans were loose at 12 weeks and by 22 weeks, getting tight in the hip and looking a bit funny. By the time I get my replacement (which has taken weeks so far) I doubt I will fit them any more, and that is despite only gaining weight within the guidelines and eating healthy. Butt and hips just expanded by about 2 jeans sizes :-( When they say they will fit you the whole way through, depending on how you gain your weight, they may well NOT even if you only gain a normal/minimal amount of weight.

Weight gain is different for everyone. I purchased 1 size up and they never fit properly and had to go buy some more in my normal size - I'd be more inclined to suggest if you can buy 2 pairs of pants at different intervals, my first pair were worn 3 times IF that because they were so big on me.

Or just stick to leggings, cause they stretch

Yeah I'm beginning to think that those who've opted for leggings had the right idea! I'm usually not a leggings fan, but they might be less problematic than jeans after all!

It would be real helpful to be able to predict where we gained weight huh! I thought mine would have plenty of room the whole way through because they were fairly loose to begin with, but apparently my butt had other ideas.

If they hadn't started to fall apart, I'd still be happy enough even after growing out of them, as they should fit while I'm losing the weight and at the beginning of my next pregnancy - I would have gotten a good amount of wear out of them over time.

I also stopped wearing them sooner than I had to simply because I didn't trust the waistband to hold up at ALL with actual strain on the seam given it didn't hold up when loose!

All up, it hasn't been my most successful foray into maternity fashion. Oh well. I try not to think how many sets of tunics and leggings I could have bought with $150

Best preggy jeans out there are from Jeans West. I think I got 2 pairs for $100.00, super comfy and I've thrashed mine (one pair on, one pair in the wash!) I just got my normal size,(they also have an adjustable waist) and have been wearing them from about 10 weeks, currently 32 weeks and they are still going strong! Best thing is, with a top covering the waist band, they look like normal jeans too!

I unfortunately didn't have much luck with the Jeanswest ones - I hate skinny jeans (they really look bad on me) and they didn't have the bootleg ones in my size - and then they didn't get new stock in for weeks on end despite the store repeatedly requesting it.

I had noticed a lot of people say they're good - I just had really bad luck getting my size and style. Now knowing about my butt expansion I probably could have just bought the big ones and worn them loose for a couple of months

Now I'm sticking to my DIY maternity jeans - chop the waistband of cheap/second hand jeans, attach stretchy waistband (or bought belly band - which work really well) - voila! Tough as old boots, cheap and easily replaceable! Does mean I don't have any nice ones though, which was the whole point of trying to buy the nice Egg ones.

I finally bought some Jeanswest jeans recently...easier to get my size now I'm fatter, somehow! Have to say, they are AWESOME. They don't look as great as my Egg ones did, but they're comfy and tough as old boots! Awesome, considering how s**t my Egg ones were in terms of staying-together-ness and I STILL haven't received my replacement yet. I used to be a Jeanswest fan for non-maternity jeans, and then became a Max jeans fan, but Jeanswest is certainly growing on me again!!

I LOVED my Jeans West preggy jeans

I purchased a pair of Egg work trousers that came up over my belly and I admit I wore them almost daily but by the end of my pregnancy the waist band had come away and the fabric was all nobbly. They cost a fortune (for maternity pants!) and not worth the money I spent.

I hardly got any wear out of my Egg jeans - they instantly started to rip at the waist. The really annoying thing about it is that they were quite loose when I got them, so it wasn't like there was any strain on the seams at all. I was also being really careful every time I pulled them up not to yank on the stretch fabric. I'm really quite annoyed by the whole saga. I only spent that much because I'd heard so many positive reviews about Egg maternity clothing in general and jeans in particular. I ended up feeling stupid for risking the money and having to admit hubby was right about them being unjustifiably expensive. Now he's nagging me to nag for a refund, but I'm so sick of enquiring about my replacement and being told "it's coming" (for over 2 months now) that I'm struggling to drag myself in the door again to demand a refund because they haven't replaced them within a reasonable time frame. They sell this style online with a delivery time of 2-4 working days for crying out loud.

I may have been just unlucky with the whole thing, I don't know. The pregnancy hormones, and feeling huge, tired and like I'm about to pop, knowing I won't even be pregnant for more than another 2 months now, aren't helping my mood about it for sure!

Yay for Jeanswest! :-)

I bought two pairs of Jeanswest jeans off trademe and I love them. Feels like I'm wearing trackpants. The waistbands are really comfortable. Last time I was pregnant, I used one of those belly belts with my ordinary pre-preggy jeans. But the Jeanswest jeans are far more comfy.

I didn't want to fork out lots of money for maternity gear when I'm only going to wear preggy clothes for a short amount of time however as someone pointed out, depending when/if I lose the baby weight, I'll be wearing these for at least a month or two after giving birth.

Yep it's gonna take me a while to get back to normal so I anticipate getting quite a bit more wear out of my jeanswest jeans! I underestimated how much stuff other than the bump was gonna grow...and I've been reasonably good about what I'm eating.

I'm finding my jeanswest ones almost like trackpants too. They rock. When I was using the belly belt thing I was finding my pants were falling down a bit much.

Just a side note, jeanswest do FREE delivery for orders over $75, so if you try some on instore, like the, but they dont have your fav style/size in stock get them to write it down and go home, jump on the net and get them that way. Also, they have some beautiful colours on there right now and do the same deal as they have instore

Wow, when they didn't have my size in early pregnancy, I can't believe I didn't think about just ordering them online! Such a good idea!!! Aaargh! Would have saved me soooo much hassle! Excellent point! :-)
