Hi all,
I'm getting really disheartened. We have been TTC #2 for 9 months now.
I know that is NOTHING compared to some of you ladies, so please excuse my rant.

I thought this cycle was going really well. Boobs have been tender for the last week and AF is due in 3 days.
However CM just changed colour, which means AF is on her way

It took 6 months to conceive our DD. Really would like any suggestions of what we can do.

I know you are meant to wait until you have been TTC for year before going to the Dr - but that is SO long! I know it is just three months away, but I feel so cheated by my body.

I am charting and trying to take note of my CM.
DH and I haven't had any caffeine in over 9 months now. I only have the occasional glass of wine when AF is around. We both exercise regularly, don't smoke, he is 31 and I turn 30 at the end of this year. We BD every day (sometimes twice a day if I think I've OV'd) for 2-3 weeks straight pre and post OV.

I'm wondering about herbs, vitamins, supplements, or alternative therapies that might help us. However our budget is a bit tight (especially with Christmas on the way)

Sorry for the rant. But people keep asking me "when are you going to have number 2" and it breaks my heart to have to say "When the time is right"
Instead of "whenever our bodies will let us"

DH just doesn't get why I'm so worked up over this and why every month when AF comes I feel so betrayed by my body

Sticky baby dust to all that need it,

N00b

Hi Noob sorry to hear you're feeling down about it all. I went to the GP at six months trying but Im 37 so its a bit different for me.
The GP did a whole lot of blood tests recommended by fertility assoc and a smear etc. The blood test results came back good which made me feel better about trying a few more months before going to see a fertility specialist.
Lucily we got pregnant the next month so that was good. I was expecting it to take 12 months at my age.
If I were you I would go and see the GP now and then a specialist at 12 months ttc.
All the best with it. Its so frustrating. Hang in there.

Thanks ladies. I think I'm going to make a Dr's appt. on Monday. I just hope he takes me seriously and doesn't just pat me on the head and say "keep trying"
I have had some awful experiences with the medical profession (in general) being very dismissive.

Thanks again,

If they pay you on the head and say keep trying, as you say, find another Dr. Nine months is a long time to wait, and yes, everything could be fine and it might just be taking its time to happen, but you deserve a chance to find out if something's wrong.

Go in expecting to take away forms for Day 2 and Day 21 bloods, which are to check your ovulating. That's the very least I'd expect.

All the best... I know how hard it is to wait. Big hugs.

Hi there, if you are Auckland based I'd recommend going to see a natural fertility specialist - Loula George at Motherwell. Do a google search for details and to read some of the testimonials of clients who were finding it difficult to conceive. She (and the rest of the team there) are amazing. I've been working with her for 6 mths on sorting my issues with miscarrying, and am about to have my first try again soon. My blood test results are showing immense improvements. Also, my partner (who is also a woman) had got PCOS and was not ovulating, would skip periods then have terrible ones, 60+ day cycles, unbearable pain and awful bleeding. She's now ovulating, having 30 day cycles and hardly any pain! Loula is a miracle worker & will take your concerns seriously.
Final thing to add, I'm also seeing a specialist through Auckland gynaecology & Auckland radiology and staff from both places sang Loula's praise and said they refer people to her. Which is pretty unheard of for medical 'establishments' to refer patients to a naturopath!
Good luck!

Thanks for that Pepi-bebe, I will definitely look into the natural fertility specialist that you suggested.
I went to the Dr today. He was really supportive and could see why I wanted to get my bloods taken, he also wrote a script for DH to get his swimmers tested.
DH was actually home sick today and I persuaded him to "give a sample"

Then I took them to the med lab when I got my bloods done. The annoying thing is the Dr didn't tell me that the "sample" could only be accepted by the Lab Test place in Mt Wellington!

DH will have to do it again this weekend.

The Dr called me (but I missed the call) to say that I was low in iron and I need to pick up a script for an iron supplement and he also wants to discuss why I'm so low in iron.

I'm really chuffed that he followed it up so very promptly! I'll go in tomorrow and see what is going on with my iron count.

Good luck n00b! Sounds like your Dr is on to it. Ask if they test potassium levels? I had to take potassium sups & I was like you, #2 took forever, once I started the supps, away we were

Thanks for the tip AandCsmum - will definitely ask about potassium levels.
Just found out that my iron is REALLY low. Normal rang is between 30-130, I'm at 7! My iron stores (which is different apparently is only 15!)

He has now got me doing tests to see why my iron is so low. I'm not a vegetarian (but we only eat red meat once a week or so) and my AF isn't overly heavy.

Thanks for all the support,

Hi Noob

It took hubby and i 10 months to conceive number 2 , i went to the docs at about 7 months trying turns out i had crazy low Iron and i was put on Iron pills and was told it could take 2 months to get my Iron back up to normal and thats a major factor in why we were having trouble conceiving and after 2 months on Iron pills guess what i finally got my 2 lines so Iron is a major factor so hopefully once thats sorted you can get your two lines as well

That's GREAT to hear newmama. Fingers crossed I can follow your lead, get my iron sorted out and get UTD asap.
I just have to wait another week or so for them to finish testing me to figure out why I'm so low in iron before I can start taking the supplements.

Hi ladies,
would love some more advice.
I got day 1 and day 14 bloods done.
They both came back and said I wasn't ovulating. The G.P asked if I wanted to be referred to a fertility specialist.

I asked if there was a chance that I just hadn't OV'd yet, so the bloods couldn't detect the rise in progesterone as I think I may have OV'd today (CD 16 - I had a dip in temp today)

I got the GP to write me up another lab form and I had bloods done today. If that comes back negative should I press to have day 21 done as well ('cause from what I can find on Google, normally they ask for day 1-3 and day 21 bloods)

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

n00b

Yeah I think so, I haven't heard of day 14 bloods before! But your GP is obviously willing to refer you on which is awesome! How long have you been trying?

Ah 9 months I see. I would say definitely press for day 21's and then let them refer you on. Hugs! Such a rotten place to be

Thanks Epic - I just got a call from the Dr's. Apparently I'm mid cycle (don't know what that means) but still my PG is <1

I'm going for day 21 bloods (got my GP to write up a lab form) and then all I can do is wait and see if I have OV'd.

Has anyone ever heard of OV not happening, but you still get a dip and the spike in BBT?

I'm sort of pleased that I can see that something is wrong - so maybe it is fixable - but I feel really let down by my body that it might not be ovulating. Gutted

Hi noob_mum,

Just checking to see how you're going, I'm in a similar situation to you, except we don't BD nearly as much as you!

It's been 5 months since my post-MC surgery, I'm scared that I too am not ovulating.

Take care

Thanks Tiger_lily.
The day 21 bloods say I "should" have OV'd - so if we aren't UTD this month then we wait to see FA.
DH swimmers are good, and it looks like I OV'd so I have no idea what the issue is.
I had a MASSIVE dip in BBT this morning and I am 7DPO , so I'm hoping it is implantation. But after almost 10 months of trying (which I know is NOTHING compare to some of the wonderful people on this forum) I feel like I shouldn't get my hopes up at all.

Are you going to see a Dr about getting some blood tests and swimmers checked for DH?

^ I highly doubt that DH would allow himself to be tested, although I've talked to him about keeping himself healthy.

I'm going to see the GP next cycle, I'm already CD3, I'd like to do the day 2 & 21 tests.

Don't feel 10 months isn't long enough, they recommend you see someone after around 12 months so, by the time you see FA it will be priv bang on.

Most my friends conceived within 1-3 months, I always thought it would be around 3 months for us *sigh*

Tiger, are you charting? That can be a good way to work out what's going on.

I'm in a holding pattern, waiting for a specialist appointment in January, but I got my progesterone results this morning and for the second month in a row I haven't ovulated.I was seeing a naturopath and she gave me some herbal medicine but I'm not taking it next cycle, just in case its that. Seeing my doctor tomorrow, I'm going to beg her for something to help me ovulate next cycle - before this my problem was delayed ovulation, not lack of ovulation. SO sick of this, everyone around us is popping out babies and I want it to be our turn! We have been married nearly three years now, people are seriously expecting it any minute and its so hard having them ask us all the time!
