hey homefish! with the food it's a tricky thing, I've had friends who eat whatever they want and have had no trouble, but I just think it's too big a risk, if I ate something dodgy and got listeria resulting in a miscarriage or stillbirth I would never forgive myself. I think it's especially important in the first trimester, I think you can probably be a little less cautious in the third trimester, but I'd still be careful. I hope that Doc isn't your LMC, he sounds pretty irresponsible!!

Thanks, Fins. I reckon I'll give the banana trick a go tonight. And don't feel bad about the MW, i am not sure i would want one like my mother in law either. We get along just fine, but i already have one of her. Love corn cruskits- it's a shame i would never get away with taking them to bed with me!

I totally agree- would i risk the baby for a soft cheese? And no, i will be looking for a different LMC - this Dr doesn't needs what we want anyway.

Smoothies are keeping me going at the moment, I was snacking on cheese and crackers but my tastes really seem to flip flop at the moment so I am trying to keep a lot of variety. My work drawers are heaving with snacks now.

Hi ladies! haha, cravings are so totally random! You can be craving one thing one day and the next day be totally off it right? I spoke to my friend yesterday, she has a 3 month old and she craved exactly what I have been lately - rashuns chips and banana milk!!! Random! I have been having milk most nights with some banana nesquik in it, so good! Food is definately the hardest, particularly lunch and dinners, never know what I feel like but def. need to eat often otherwise feel worse. Have put on a lot of weight already! Have my scan at 1.40pm today, bit nervous! but excited :)

BANANA MILK - oh boy, sometimes I hear of a food/drink like that and then bam, it's all I can think about. Will definitely be going to get me a banana primo at lunch time!! I am trying not to eat the foods that are on the "do not eat while pregnant list" - I don't eat sushi, subway salads or soft serve, have my steaks well done, reheat my food till it is scalding etc etc. I too wouldn't be ableto forgive myself if I got sick and harmed the baby!

Ugh. Getting annoyed with the midwife hunt that I am on. Two that live close, seem lovely and come highly recommended are both away when I'm going to need them! I want someone around Mt Albert or between here and Ponsonby where I work for convenience. Anyone found someone?

Hi guys! Sorry Fins, I am in Welly but hope u have some luck soon! I had luck with the 7th lady I rang and I was only like 5weeks at the time! LouLou thank-you for updating the list but you will have to change it again!!! I went for my scan today and turns out I am now 2 days ahead of what they first thought (yay!) so I am 9.5 weeks today :) So my new official due date is July 6th. Totally cool having scans, love seeing the heartbeat and hearing that everything is ok!!! My morning sickness is def. hitting me now mid-late afternoon and staying put for the night - yuck. :( Feel not too bad in the day. My job involves a lot of computer work and driving which doesnt help though! hehe I am the same 1st time mum 2 B, hear of foods and then its bam - gotta have it!

Hi all, sorry I haven't read all 9 pages yet, but I would love to join your group! I am due at the end of July (28th), so I'm only just 6 weeks along. I thought it was too early to contact a midwife (I'm still half expecting to miscarry, as I've miscarried about this time before), but reading a few of your comments, I'd better do so soon! My previous midwife was amazing and I really want to have her again.
I'm in Wellington and this is baby #3 for us... I can't quite believe we are going for round three; I've spent a year (since #2 turned 1) trying to convince myself that it made sense to stop at 2, but I just really wanted another. So it feels like such a blessing. But I still can't believe it - it happened so quickly and I haven't had any symptoms apart from bigger, tender breasts and I'm a bit more tired. With my last pregnancy morning sickness hit me over the head around week 7-8 though, so I'm readying myself for it!

Lurker from the August thread here - Fins, I've had someone recommended to me in Mt Albert or Pt Chev (I'm not 100% sure, waiting til my scan on Thursday before we properly start to set something up) - Louise Witten. http://www.healthpoint.co.nz/maternity/midwife-practice/louise-witten-midwife/at/mt-albert-auckland/
I've spoken with her on the phone and she sounds lovely. Her partner, Brigid Beehan, is also meant to be very good.
Good luck!

Oh hhaha thanks LouLou, didnt realize was so easy :) will do that if it changes again ;) Having a very off day today, had to come home for lunch from work...can't believe how much I don't want to go back :( And then have a work function tonight!! last thing I feel like :( I have a pregnant workmate who is just over 12 weeks, she is telling everyone today, and she has had the most sweetest pregnancy so far, no symptoms, just a bit tired and hungry, shes just like her normal self! so i feel a bit of a cop out if i dont go when they see how good she is! i know everybody is different but I want to at least try show that i am 'coping!'. argh. 10 weeks on Saturday though so surely ... surely... things are going to start improving. Around the lunch period and night time is worse for me. Have you all bought much yet???

I Have a scan tomorrow too! Only just booked in it and have told work I'm getting a smear- haha- we're all very open and I hate lying to them all, oh well!
JessyDukes- I did actually email Louise yesterday and am waiting for a reply (Brigid is away in July!) I have left a message with another midwife in Grey Lynn and got a big list when I rung national womens today, but feel like I shouldn't leave 10 messages all over the show and have to field calls- Hopefully one of the two get back to me soon!

congrats mumof12be! You should start looking for a midwife right away cos they book real quick. You might not end up seeing her til about 9-10 weeks anyway but she'll book you in as soon as you call so best to do it soon. Most midwives book only 5-6 ladies a month, so good to get in first with your pick - all the best on the hunt!
