I didn't watch it, due to the fact that it ws not done by NZ people and it was about NZ. If you look at the stats how many chldren have died from the disease since having the jab - I can think of 3 complared to the once a week we were hearing in the news before the jab. I will still be getting my next one jabbed.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

i watched it.... i dont like that it does seem to be an experiment, without much info etc... but i do understand both sides. it is all about choice, i chose not to because i felt like i didnt know enough about the vaccine and am so far happy with my decision. i dont like scaremongering and i feel this whole vaccine is... if you do and if ya dont! argh!

I watched a little, but really found it nothing more than second hand information and scaremongering.

This is a hard one. The thing that worries me is the lack of testing. My baby is due for his 6 week jabs tomorrow and I was just going to get them all done, but this does make you think. I suppose there are risks whatever you do.

I think it was a very hyped media take on the issue.
When Ella was getting her first Menz jabs I was very iffy about them as were so new, but what it came down to for me was weighing up my fear of the illness and the effects I knew it could have, against a vaccine that could protect her from it.
Everything I read about it's possible side effects was about the same as with the other imms, so I chose to go ahead.
I think our responsibility as parents is to find out as much as we can from reliable sources of information and then decide what we think is best for our children whether for or against vaccinating, regardless of what the media tells us.

I chose not to watch it as I felt it is pure scare mongering. The NZ one has been adapted for us. Every vaccine has to be a new one at some stage. We have had all of our three kids done and so far I don't regret it. I still think the risks of the disease outways a reaction to the immunisation. I could never forgive myself if I chose not to get it and my child contracted the disease.

It still comes down to personal choice.

i didn't watch it I think its just scaremongering but it is all down to personal choice but i have seen first hand what this awful illness can do and i will do anything for my children not to have to go though what my cousin did and still does. Both mine have had them and so will any further children

Personally I didn't want to see it as it is always the finger being pointed "you should have immunised so your kid didn't get sick" or "you immunised when it was a crap vaccine and now your kids is going to get sick". There will always be a mistake decision in the care of our children, according to the media (or anyone else) no matter what we do.
All this parent scaremongering is getting way out of control. What about the real problems like theft or gun usage, child abuse, drug addiction and terrorists? Seems like a much better thing to whine about other than "your decisions are crap, look at what it is going to do to you and your kids MUHAhahahHAHha".
I'm not saying at all that the issues and concerns that surround this whole saga are not important but we never see in the media that we are trying to make a difference to the care of our children by offering this vaccine. What are the pro's? What about the kid's (and I might be mistaken but I am sure even though the media states otherwise there are more than 5 - Olivia being one of them) who have had no problems with the vaccine?
I think it is great that there is Mum's who wish to stand by their decisions whether it is to immunise or not, you are taking care of your child just by making a decision based on what you deem are the facts and what is best for your family.
I don't expect others to agree with the decisions I make over the up bringing of Olivia and I don't expect that all the decisions I make will ever be the most cleverest or right for her but we do what we can.
Ok, rant over!

When I took Amelia for her immunisations (6 week ones delayed to 12 wks), I felt a bit of pressure to have the MenzB one done to be honest. It was all about the timing, rather than the nurse pressuring me. However I agonised for over a week whether I'd done the right thing as she was not herself.

Yes, I watched Sunday last night, and after my own misgivings over things, and then other things mentioned in the programme (no phase 3 testing (a biggie), never tested on babies/young children, not formally approved by NZ govt etc), hubby & I have decided not to get any more MenzB injections done.

It's a huge decision we all have to make - one way or the other, and all we can do is hope we've made the right one.

We weren't convinced about enough testing either, so have not immunised our kids for MenzB. I didn't get to see the tv programme but saw some stuff about it in the news last week.

Okay I'm going to put here now that I am VERY pro-choice but I believe that the MoH were very biased with the info they have given out regarding MenzB.

Feel free NOT to read this reply.

I think that there should have been better testing & while 99% of the people/babies have been fine the few who did have a reaction or a problem have reacted badly.
I didn't watch the program but it is something that is very dear to my heart right now. My 13 year old brother has developed what they think is arthritis, which the specialists "think" may be related to the vaccine. He also has appetite & energy issues too. They have ruled out EVERYTHING that normally relates to the condition he has & came back to the fact that he only developed problems after he had his jabs. It is so very sad to see my once happy, carefree little brother turn into someone I don't know. He used to be very social, played rugby, soccer & did motor-x. Now he barely has energy to get out of bed, he doesn't like being around people, he can't talk properly and to make matters worse he is in pain nearly all of the time even though he has drugs galore for pain relief. My mum called me today in tears because the specialist told her that they may have to consider getting him a wheelchair & everything that goes with it & they have recommended that he is homeschooled. He has always been slim but now he is skeletal & very pale. He has no appetite & my mum has to coax him into eating. How normal is that for a teenage boy??? My mum regrets so so much getting him immunised for MenzB even though my two sisters & my other brother had no problems whatsoever. This is coming from my mum who had a go at me for not wanting to get that particular vaccine after readiing all the research papers I could get my hands.
Right now my mum is fighting hard to get some real answers & she has hit a brick wall with the Ministry of Health....You may be seeing a news piece about my brother soon if things go ahead.
I know that it is an extreme case and very very rare but I just had to put my opinion in because of my own experience from what I have seen with my brother

oh! that is so horrible for your little brother and family. to me it sounds a bit like how the girl felt on the documentry with the tiredness etc.. hers was M.E though. my thoughts are with you toni, i hope that you get some answers and that your mum gets through to MOH.
how scary.

Maya has been immunised and the twins will be too. I spoke to the paed about the Menzb one yesterday and he said it is basically a storm in a teacup. I realise that there are people who have had bad reactions, but the same is true with any immunisation (Maya needed adrenalin after her MMR but I will still give her the 4 year dose as it is easily fixed compared to the diseases it prevents) and esp in the case of the Menzb the disease is far worse than the minimal risk.

Just my opinion...

Hi guys, I missed the programme, had I known it was on I would have definately watched it. Have been discussing the pros and cons of immunisation with my M.W at the moment. She gave me a website to look at on Monday, which I admit had a nosey but not delved into fully yet. Its another view of things as people are often given just ministry of health info. Anyway... the site is ias.org.nz
