Have you phoned around to see if the prices vary?....Oh well hun hope all workes out for you. I'd also try phoning around otherwise you might need to look at the public option.
I had to pay when I got my scan done to check everything was ok. I wasn't too worried to be honest, I'd rather that than wait to go through the public system.

Hi,
I just had to have one done too....... Started off as just an external abdo scan (thought i had apendicitis), then they had to invade me up the fufu :) to get a better look as it turns out I have more than 10 cysts om 1 ovary - this set me back $170.00, im in the Bay of Plenty where things are usually cheaper!!! Can you see if they will let you set up a payment plan? I got a $20 discount as I had only been told that it would be an abdo scan which is only $90.00 they were really noce about it. Your right though, it is so unfair that it costs so much to get fertility treatment.
Jeszika - If i remember you have PCOS? Can you tell me a little more regards the process you went through - I have day 23 bloods due to be taken on Fri, but have no idea what will be done from there, and I need some info to help ease my imagination, and hope to make the massive amounts of pain I am in seem that little bit more bearable.
Sorry for the thread-jack! and the ramble.

Yer i have PCOS and Endo
I had a lap to remove the endo dr said i was gonna be under for 1/2 hour but i was in for 3 hours and during that time she said i had PCOS and i hadnt ovulated for a year. She was vague and left me hanging and said if i wasnt pregnant in 6 months to come back and she would put me on clomid to help boost my chances of getting pregnant and give me better quality eggs. I know what you mean by the pain i recommend talking to your GP and getting some buscopan it helps with the cramping otherwise panadol and nurofen will become ur closest companion! or even codiene.
I never had bloods but basically they are to see if u are ovulating and if you are producing enough progesterone to support a pregnancy. etc its how they determine if there are probs and if they are then they can put u on progesterone etc to help.

Jess do you get it back frm insurance? Coz most won't cover 'fertility' as such, but Endo and PCOS are actual medical conditions separate to infertility so should be covered.

I was going to ask if you had insurance as well. I can not believe the cost of scans, they are about the same price here in Palmy. I couldn't believe the price either when I had mine done last year. Thank god for insurance it only ended up costing me $45.

Thanks Jess,
It is nice to know that there is a light at the end of this very long and scary tunnell......... Good to hear that you found a place cheaper.
I wondered if they would remove the cysts or not, it seems that there is an awful number of them, so they obviously aren't dissapearing like they say they do - and it's causing me a lot of grief....
What's Buscopan? At the moment I can only take panadol, as I am allergic to brofen - the key ingredient in nurofen/panafen etc. Kinda sux really !!!
Thanks again for your story, It helps to get over the big scariness of it all !

Nah i dont unfortunately and if i signed up i would have to declare my past surgeries and health conditions, PND, PCOS and Endo. I had my endo surgery on it tho went private and it cost around $4 - $5k
It freaken sucks is right!
Travelgirl - Nah they cant remove them i dont think but they do increase and decrease in size. Maybe there are some meds you can take to help? Could be painful at the moment def because of ovulation and the corpius lutum (sp?) is bigger than norm? Never know! Buscopan is an anti spasm drug stops the cramps and muscles spasm associated with periods etc etc. I used to take codiene for my periods helped alot but made me sleepy!

Have to admit the scan "up in you" is so much better and you don't have to drink so much to have it done. They saw so much more that way than through the tummy.

Its not that bad, kinda uncomfortable, but not too painfull. I couldn't see "How far up there" they went, but it felt like a pretty long way :)
Jess, Thanks for that info, I'll keep it in mind for when I see the Dr on Friday!
