Topic: Regarding post about hubbys being tired. Posted: 12 January 2007 at 2:24pm |
What does your husband help with around the house? And with the kids?
Hubby baths McKayla at night but sometimes I get a bit tired of telling him what the time is and that it is getting late. (over her bath time already)
Doesnt really help with cleaning but Trash is his department and cutting grass is his as well.
He is quite good at changing nappies ect.

My DH pretty much does the same as yours! Baths Isla,..and also needs reminding about when to do it!,...lawns, rubbish, washes cars, is great at helping with the washing including cloth nappies, and will clean the bathroom occasionally. He used to help with the cooking, but now I do dinner while he entertains Isla,..suits me fine!

DH takes care of the lawns, although we're looking at paying someone to do that this year. He looks after the girls between 5-5.30pm so I can organise dinner in (relative) peace. He generally takes care of the gardens. And he loads the dishwasher each day (or unloads it if I happened to load it that time). Lately he has been helping out on the odd occasion with vacuuming etc.
Good post!
ETA: Oh and after dinner the girls have a little play-time and then we tidy the lounge and get them ready for bed, all together. DH gets Briona and I get Hannah, which is fine by me because Briona is a wriggler

We are renovating our house so he tends to do that. I love mowing the lawns so that is my job. We tend to share the garden. I do most of the stuff "inside" however he will put the clothes away after I have folded them. We share the bathing of Andrew, if one washes him the other dresses him. When Andrew was younger it was DH's job to bath and dress Andrew and to read him his story at night. Now hes older we share it. With the next one coming along we will probably look at things again.

I'm pretty old fashioned in my views, I think that since Dale is the only one working for cash, then I should be the one working at home. Although in saying that he will do what ever I ask him to do He is such a good boy!

Hubby vacumes every 2nd day, cleans the toilet each week, Cooks dinner on weekdays, picks up Zaara from Kindy each working day and some days gives her a bath. Washes the dishes every 2nd night, He loads the washing machine every other time, and unloads it every other time. Does the garden, lawn and cleans the Car(s).
I take care of Zaara, cook on weekends, vaccume every 2nd day, clean dishes every other night, put Zaara to bed, iron etc
And I dont have to tell him to do any thing...we are both a tidy freak so we like our house to be nice and clean.
He dies more than me, I must admit but I take care of Zaara and keep her entertained!

Oh this is such a good topic at the moment as i am currently right this minute giving hubby the very cold treatment!!! He has only just gone back to work after having a long break off work with health problems. His help and involvment varies alot and has become a big fight starter!! my son has started to not listen to me at all particularly when hubby is home and even the outsiders have started to comment, when Bay plays up hubby will not help to dicipline and will often pick him up and cuddle and make me seem like a horrible person! . Today he got home from work and had a 2 hour long bath! then layed on the couch and hasnt moved and when i expressed my anger about his lack of help he barked that "he earns the money so the rest is my job!!!" of course this upsets me especially being pregnant tired and crying at the smallest things!!!
Anyway that was slightly off the topic but i just needed to vent

Roksana - you guys vaccum every day? lol
Our carpets are lucky if they get it once a week lmao
But in answer to the original question - although I don't have kids just yet DH does some, he mows the lawns (if I remind him), usually he cleans the kitchen and when he runs out of clean boxers he tends to do a load of washing but that is really about the extent of it. Oh but he does help with cooking because I'm vegetarian, if he wants meat he has to help otherwise I'd probably burn it or give it to him pretty raw lol.

hmmm, basically DP's only job is to mow the lawns. he's like baysmum's hubby and think that because he works i should do all the rest. lol, the only reason i'm not doing the lawns is because mikey would probably run under the mower.

Like Stacey, we don't have kids yet, but I am very lucky to have a DH who does everything. Long may it continue!
We have lived together for 6 years, and I have never cleaned the toilet (don't worry - he does it!) I am allergic to dust, so he vaccums, though during term time my sister does the cleaning. He is also much tidier than me so he is always tidying up my 'piles of crap' to make it easier to put stuff away.
Since getting pregnant, he has learnt to cook more meals, and will always offer to cook now. FOr about 10 weeks there he did all the grocery shopping and washing, normally this is shared though slightly more done by him. He has also been busy with gardsning stuff as he won't let me do it - mind you when we shop together he won't let me take the shopping in either - though recently I was allowed to bring in the toilet paper!
When we watch tv or movies we snuggle on the couch and he gives me back massages - sometimes I reiprocate!
I think my job is usually to do the cooking, and to look beautiful (his words - luckily he thinks that even in unwashed hair and scruffy clothes!)

Im loathe to do this in case one day he comes on here and reads all the work he does do and reminds me of it constantly...but have to admit he does a bit...just wish it was when it needs to be done not just when he gets inspired...
He is a total handyman - can basically fix anything, which is good and saves money. He mows the lawns, does dishes (sometimes), puts on loads of washing (sometimes or when he is running out of clothing or when he has the guilts), runs the dogs when i dont feel like it, vaccums every second fri nite...but he doesnt garden and moans a lot more or expects praise for what he does do waaaay too much!!!
he is ok i guess...

Unfortunately DH and I both grew up in homes where this was the case Hasn't made things very helpful for me!
But DH seems to take on a bit more with each baby. Pg #1 he took on the laundry (I was working full-time as well), Baby #2 he took on a lot of looking-after-the-toddler, pg #3 yup it's getting heaps better. A lot of it is that with the kids close together - which I think works great for the most part - I get quite fatigued. So we are actually going to employ some home-help once a week this year but I'm waiting for a couple of weeks to pass before confirming how much I'll get done for me. Basically I just think looking after the kids is more important, but I'll still do most of the cleaning.

Oh I forgot about the dishes - I am not very good at loading the dishwasher, so he does that too. He likes to make sure things are totally rinsed before they go in, so I try to remember to do that when I do put dishes in!

My DH does nothing at all housework wise- I can barely get him to put his clothes in the wash basket!
He makes up for it parenting wise though- he plays with DD all the time (which means I can get on with other things) but is really good at sharing the discipline as well.
I must admit I got a bit annoyed with it when he was off work- I figure his job is to earn the money and mine is to do the housework. I wish I got 3 weeks holiday when I didn't have to do either though!

DH is pretty good about things, he does all the outside bits and pieces, and other stuff if I ask ("indoor chores"). I usually do the salad and get the meat ready, and then he'll go cook it on the BBQ (oven if it's raining), he'll help with folding washing if I've got a big load, and is really good with Erin most of the time - even gives me a Saturday morning sleep in

Just to put a twist on this topic.
DW feeds Ash if she gets home from work in time, while I finish tea for us. She cooks sunday only.
She bath or showers her.
DW cleans the bathroom and her own washing, she don't like her nice white tops with pink spots.
Weekends I sleep in on sunday.
She does a bit of other cleaning on weekend not like hours of it just bits here and there.
Over all not that much diff to a male that works full time and helps out a bit.

Look out! It's a man.
