Topic: Ovulator Predictor Kits on Trade Me Posted: 20 January 2007 at 5:30pm |
Hi Everyone
I'm new to this website and was wondering if anyone has purchased Ovulator Predictor Kits on Trade Me???
I saw a post on OHbaby about buying them on Trade Me and hadn't considered it before. Have just done a search on Trade Me and was impressed with the selection.
DH and I have been trying for 4 months (as AF has never been regular for me) so tried an OPK last month and I found them personally great to help take the stress away from "WHEN TO START TRYING???".
Any thoughts on if its a good idea to buy on Trade Me???

I bought some off Trade Me once a long long time ago, and they seemed to work just fine, and a lot more reasonably priced than buying from the chemist ! They will usually throw in a free HPT too, or at least the seller I bought them off did...

I found the QUICKPEAK brand on trade me for the same price as the chemist, but some of the other test kits were really cheap!! At $20 a kit, it sure adds up over a few months of trying so if we're not lucky enought this month to become parents, I'll definately be looking at buying OPK on trade me for next month.
Nice to hear that others have bought and treid OPK on trade me before. Makes me feel less worried about doing so.

Hi Baysmum and Maya
Thanks for your posts. Nice to know that buying OPKs on TradeMe are a good way to go. I think I'll be buying the re-useable saliva tests next time (hopefully there won't be a next time, but if there is.....)
Question: I have used OPK for the last 5 days, all with a negative result. Have also been temping, and temp went up, so obviously have ovulated. Does that mean the tests were wrong? I'm confused (and a little sad) that if they are right, I havn't ovulated this month which means theres absolutely no way I can get pregnant this month. Don't want to get down in the dumps but if the OPK test was negative, surely there's no way I did ovulate.
Can you ovulate and still get a negative OPK result????

I would keep using the tests this month and if your period arrives without showing a positive result take yourself off to the doctor, as with that they can start seeing what is going on as essentially you have proof that you didn't ovulate for one cycle. As for the temp rise, my chart was all over the place and without the OPK's I would have never known I ovulated, perhaps this is the same for you?

When i was temping i had cycles where i wasnt ovulating after my MC and i didnt get any type of temp rise (one that stays up afterwards Eg: before - 36.3, after - 36.7) it just stayed around the 36.3 mark but the month that i got pregnant i was so sure because my microscope said ferning (along with the mucous and cervix checks!...yip i went all out!! lol) so away we went then 2 days later i woke up and had a nice 36.7 and it stayed like that!
I cant really give an opinion on the strips as i didnt use mine but i found temping really good combined with the other methods

With the strips, if you use them once a day then you can actually miss the positive. I used OPK's during my cycle and did not get a positive - yet I definitely ovulated because I got pregnant!
After I read up on them (I think it was peeonastick.com again!) I found that for some people, if they test at, say, 2pm everyday, the surge may have happened earlier in the day and the opk hasn't picked it up.
I found the combination of temps and cervical mucus more reliable, though I know many peopl who have had success with OPK's so I think they are worth pursuing.

Oh I'm starting to feel so much better after reading your posts. Perhaps testing with the OPK at night isn't the best time. Perhaps first thing in the morning might be better. Just read on another post that the saliva tests are best done in the morning, so makes sense the OPKs are better in the morning too.
I do find temping/cervical mucus/cervial position a good back-up on all the methods too. Guess I'm dis-regarding the OPK results this month and going with what my body tells me rather than chemistry. Hopefully our BD'ing has paid off and we got in....JUST IN THE NICK OF TIME!!!!!

When using an OPK use it about midday. It is possible to never see a positive Test strip as you may miss the surge on the OPK. OPKs alone cannot confirm ovulation i rely on temps and CM aswell.
I get my OPKS and pregnancy tests from overseas. You can get 25 OPKs and 15 HPTs for about $25USD. WAY cheaper!

I was thinking about this this morning. I know for me, the line got darker over a few days before O, so knew when the crucial day was coming for me. Not sure on others experiences, but even if you miss the darker line, you could still be going for gold once you get the hint of a line

Sure thing - you can buy privately from her. A bit easier too. Will give you the details when I see you.

Sarah Beth - Unfortunately with OPKs you always get a line. I would say go for gold when its almost as dark at the control line
