Topic: Looking for Christchurch New Mums Posted: 25 January 2007 at 1:53pm |
Hi there! I'm a first time mum with an almost seven week old little boy, Isaac, and am really keen to meet up with other new mums in Christchurch.
As I don't have a lot of friends with babies I'm finding it hard to build up friendships with other mums who are going through the same things that I am.
As you all know it's such a huge life change having a baby and it would be great to speak with other woman in a similar situation.

Hi ladies. Ive got two friends who have just had babies and my youngest is 6 months old and was thinking of starting maybe a regular coffee group every second week or something. Both of my friends are first time parents and dont know anyone else apart from me with babies. What do you guys reckon?

Thanks for the replies guys. Nice to hear from some like-wise Christchurch based mums. I am really keen on the idea of a coffee group as a great way to meet new people and have a good excuse to get away from home (though I'd assume we would rotate homes each meeting).
Anyone else out there interested as the more the merrier!

well next week is my last week of work so after that Im free any day except wednesday. Im happy to travel so for me it doesnt really matter what side of town you live on. My friend who is keen lives in Riccarton but is also happy to travel. She has a week 7 week old girl and really wants to meet some new mums. My other friend who might be interested in has a wee 2 week old boy so she might want to wait a wee while cos she had a c section.
I think something regular is a good idea cos you know in advance not to plan things for that day, every week might be a hassle for some but either is good for me. Just pick a day and place for a start.

Sounds like this coffee group is going to be a nice big one by the time we're finished. As I posted the first message I'll volunteer my home for the first meeting! However please note my house is a little small ladies and that I have a rather large but cuddly german shepherd. However I'm sure we'll all fit in with a little squeeze - LOL.
How about we schedule the first meeting for the week following next on Friday @ 10.30am - actual date is Friday the 9th February. I will send you all a private messenger email with my address and contact details.
In the interim so we're not meeting each other totally blind, how about everyone give a brief "who I am". Me first, I'm an almost 31 year old girl who's been married for four years to my main squeeze Jason. We've lived together in Christchurch our whole married life (a city I was born in and love) but we've both travelled around a bit. As you'd expect I'm so pleased that we have now had our son Isaac and the plan is to give him a sibling in the next couple of years. My interests include reading, writing, socialising (when able - LOL), walking and the odd movie. I'm especially looking forward to making some new friends with children so Jason & I can have like-minded people to socialise with and Isaac can have little playmates for as he grows.
Over to you guys......

Im 23 years old and have been with my partner for 3 years we live in Hornby my partner was born and raised here, I'm originally from Warkworth but have been living down here for about five years now and I love it down here. We were very pleased to welcome our we man James to the world in October.
My interests are music, meeting up with friends, walking, movies and I'm thinking about taking up sewing which I haven't done since High School but I look forward to it.

Im Robyn, married for 3 years (our anniversay is 26/10, same day your James was born danni) and we have been together for 12 years this week. Always lived in Christchurch although contemplating moving to Aussie but will see. Im 28 and hubby is 32. We live in Redwood at the moment, hubby works in horby so may move over there if we dont go to Aussie. I love reading, arty things, getting into the fitness thing which i really need to do cos im so overweight. Just done my first 'event' on the weekend and now training for the city to surf. Very close to my family, in fact they are pretty much my social life!
Oh and Im a dog lover too, we have a newfoundland called Max

Looks like we'll have a lot to discuss - LOL.
Probably a silly question to ask but can someone let me know how you add your Lillypie pic to your profile?

Hello,
Have just had a chance to catch up on the threads and have seen this one which i would love to join once i have had my wee girl at the mo its still lots of preping and sorting to get myself sorted im due 16 /2/07 so 20 - 30 days to go now and then once i get used to the fact i have another little life to look after not just me and partner i would love to come and meet up.
My name is Vicki and im 28 first time mum and really want to have some other likeminded familys to hang out with and have social events for the kids and stuff Ivan (my partner) of 3 almost 4 years live in Richmond and have just bought our first house and he has been busy painting etc we have finaly settled in but still havent quite finished unpacking everything, i have always lived in CHCH and couldnt see myself anywere else.
Keep me updated and maybe March all going well i will come out and meet yas (well the ones i havent yet ) i know Trish (still havent caught up though *im a slacker* sorry dude) and have meet Robyn to.
Sounds fantastic was hoping there might be some more avenues than just plunket to meeting some new mums it not easy trying to hang out with all your old friends who kinda look at you as if gees are you ever going to stop talking baby stuff hehe

Hey! My name is Emma & my daughter is 13w old (3 months today!),. My partner is Stu, it's a bit rocky, we've only just gotten back together after breaking up while I was pregnant with Gaby. Right now I live with my parents, but hopefully not much longer. I don't have a car right now, so I need to be able to get to wherever by bus... although once I get my butt into gear & get my restricted, I will be able to drive. I would really love to make some new 'in real life' friends, as I am pretty lonely... none of my friends have kids, or are thinking of getting the family way, so i'm pretty much alone.........
my email is emma.and.gaby@gmail.com, can someone email me and remind me about this lol, i always forget to come and check this site!!!!!!!!!!
